This is from a random February game vs Nashville in February 2024 so I don't think this is a fair thread. What I do think is fair is a discussion about the coaching in LA. Jim Hiller has coached this round like his life's on the line if Edmonton loses. Not even bringing up that terrible all time bad challenge, LA had great defense and ran 4 lines all year, to run 9 forwards and 4 dmen into the ground Round 1 is just unfathomable. Like even if they get by Edmonton, does he know there are 3 more rounds? The Kings are beyond gassed, I have no idea what he's doing.
Hiller is coaching this series like they're playing Edmonton in the Cup final and are down 3-0. I know he really wants to win this one but you have to think about the long game in the playoffs.

1) Got it, so your justification for the bad call was that bad reffing position leads to situations where blowing down the play on a loose puck is the right call, and therefore the hand on the covering the puck (swiping it out) in the crease is ok, because the play should have (but was not) whistled down first. Again, that's perverse logic. As for the rest, "cradling the puck" and what not, just lol... we all saw the video, your take is out there. Byfield dives on the puck like a cat on a mouse with both hands.

2) We don't know if it would have been an illegal hit or not, Kempe dodged it effectively (except for his knee). There is nothing Kane can do there given the speed. He didn't alter his trajectory at all. You could maybe call a trip if you like... it certainly wasn't a knee.

I don't think any Oilers fans feel victimized today. People are rightly calling you out from your take after last game, where YOU complained about the OT penalty and made easily refutable arguments (which today are being refuted) to suggest that the team dictating play will and should naturally draw more penalties. That has not been the case in this series certainly.

Bro are you a lawyer?

If not, you should consider it haha

I don't think it's that terrible of idea late in a game when you're pressuring to tie... however Kempe had already played a lot of minutes, just play Clarke or Spence.

Hiller is coaching scared. Coaching like he doesn't have the answers when in reality the answer is the depth the Kings have. With the exception of last night, the Kings are the better team overall through all 4 lines. They have shown this. But every time Hiller sees something concerning he throws that advantage out the window. They sit back instead of doing what got them leads. He shortens the bench a bunch. He makes an unbelievably stupid challenge when the game is tied. He benches creative players in OT.

It's bizarre and honestly should lose him his job if they get eliminated.

Besides fighting? Going for a rip, mudding, drinking. putting on your best Canadian tuxedo and going for a fancy dinner at the Keg or fish tacos at Joeys.
I prefer tailgating people in my lifted Dodge Ram while wearing my fox racing goggles / pit viper glasses.
I also never get into the Ram without my ball cap, flip flops, and shorts on.

Just kidding. I can’t afford a truck :(

Anybody have any media that discusses it? I can't find anything. Even in the lines thread and on Daily Faceoff, he's still listed as RW.
He lined up as both RW and D last night. Not at the same time, but I'm sure that'll be Hiller's next genius move.

Hiller: Adrian, I need you to line up at wing and D.
Kempe: No problem, coach. Are we waiting until the 3rd for me to switch?
Hiller: Switch? No! You're doing both on the same shift!
Kempe: Ah, I got it. So, like a rover. When I rush up ice, should I get the other RW to circle back and cover?
Hiller: What other RW? You're RW and D! 5 skaters on the ice, but you're 2 of them! Now put this on and get out there!
Kempe: A blocker?
Hiller: Darcy! You're done! Adrian's going in!

Just do some 24 and 4's on the rigs bud. You'll have a lifted truck, boat, quad and chlamydia in 6 months.

He has actually done it quite a few times this year when trailing late. I don't mind the move down a goal with under 5 mins left. Its kind of a pre goalie pull move. More risk/reward.

For #1, I am saying that the official was out of position, and lost sight of the puck, as soon as that happens, the play is supposed to be whistled down, he was in the corner when that entire scrum started, and didn't get to the net in time. There's no video showing that Byfield was on the puck, he was over it, absolutely, he had his hands in front of it, his knees behind it, and his back OVER it, that's all LEGAL, there's nothing illegal about that, he was basically cradling it. With that being said, it absolutely could have been called a PS, but it's not always called a PS there are instances where a player does that, in the crease, and it's not called, because again, craadling it is fine, he didn't put his hands over it, didn't pick it up, didn't pull it into his body, and didn't lay on it.

When the official loses site of the puck, they are supposed to whistle it down, most of the time they give it a beat, 3 beats etc, but it's whistled down, there were several VERY late whistles in that game.

Absolutely you can, sticks do it all the time, hands can do the same thing, it's a sweeping motion, you can do it right now, put something on the floor, put your hand next to it, and push......watch what happens.

#2. Got it, so Kane meant to destroy him with a high illegal hit, but got the knee instead.....makes sense.

3. If McDavid isn't holding onto Gavrikov's stick like it's manna from heaven, Gavrikov skates away.

Oilers were absolutely heads and tails above LA last night......but this whole schtick about Cali reffing or the Oilers being victims is for suckers....
Cmon man. I know you hate the Oilers but this is silly even for you.

I’ve lived in Edmonton my entire life and I’d never say fighting is part of the culture lol. Things get pretty…interesting when you leave the city and go into rural areas though.

Those guys must be from Red Deer ;)

It is funny when some people run in certain circles and say that is the norm. Or observe some random even from the outside looking in and think that is the norm.

Albertans, rural and urban, generally do not go around looking for fights. Asshole do. But assholes do that anywhere and everywhere.
