We were right there
Just not sure what we do with Byfield and who plays goal but it’s a start.
Question and answer!

Danault, Moore, Arvidsson. If the Kings had 2 lines like that, would have 100 points now
and challenging for 1st in Pacific.
I don't think that is accurate at all. That Danault line has combined to have a .65 PPG this season, having your top 2 scoring lines averaging .65 PPG would be pretty bad, considering our 3rd line has not produced at all offensively. That would be a rough offense to watch, especially on the powerplay. Kopitar is still leading the team in points by 13 right now.
Kinda disagree. They're scoring bigtime at even strength and also winning their matchups.
Danault is leading the team with 42 even strength points. Kopi is at 40, arvy and moore 38, kempe 32.
Powerplay points are the difference between Kopi and the pack. 2 Danault lines would be a massive improvement considering the 1st line is getting caved in worse than any other line.
Now if you want to say the PP would be even WORSE without them, that's statistically supportable even though the 2nd unit looks vastly more dangerous...

It's also an unfair comparison because the power play is literally designed to go through Kopitar. If he doesn't have the most power play points by far, considering he gets the most power play time and touches on the power play, it would be pretty concerning and surprising. The entire power play is set up to have him pass to Kempe for a one-timer.
I see your point, but the second unit, despite more movement, is still pretty ineffective. It's also why we have one of the worst power plays because everyone knows this. Kopi has good vision and is a good passer. But he has no deception in his game which can buy the shooter the split second necessary to beat a goaltender.
In which case I agree to a point. I think if he’s going to play he needs consistent pp time at this point because that will be a decent vehicle to get his offensive game going. It would be different if the pp was otherwise killing it. I do think development is occurring but certainly not in the way we’d expect. I have no issue focusing on rounding out his D game to provide a platform for him but the lack of PP time is perplexing. His game hasn’t come together, because he has not been given the opportunity to do so. Same could be argued about most of the youth on this roster.
Coaching staff has let us all down in regards to the deployment of the youth, but they still haven’t forced anyones hand or made the jump to the sharp end of the roster, is what I’m arguing.

I'm not saying Kopitar's sharp decline isn't a problem, but it's not THE problem.

Man, watching this and comparing Kopitar’s current footspeed is just brutal. For a big guy, Kopi had wheels. Not anymore.
Does that somehow change the fact that he’s much slower 12 years later?Hes also 35 years old and STILL leading the team in scoring....
He plays a lot of minutes. Hes out there every key situation. He has stayed out a full two minutes for power plays multiple times. If he wasnt leading the team in scoring that would be a bigger problem. Can you remember any plays or moments this season where you thought he was really driving play and pushing the pace of the game that his team followed?Hes also 35 years old and STILL leading the team in scoring....

It looks like you and I both like a big, solid, D.Just looked at the UFA D men for 2022. The LD that stuck out are Chiart, Zadarov and Morin.

Yea really. Owners spent $25 million for a coach to just roll out kopitar and doughty just like any average joe could and tell everyone else to play 1-3-1 and make sure you are strong on the boards.
I was only messing around a bit. It was a sarcastic over simplification. I keep saying he is a good coach in many ways but has his warts also. The Kings just improved their point percentage from .438 to .584 despite missing Doughty a lot of the year.
I get the frustration over Byfield or Kopitar or whatever.
But to me, when the Kings took 5 of 6 points in western Canada with the playoffs on the line? I had to give McClellan some credit.
Kings are 5th in the league in CF%, 4th in SF%. They play a pretty simple but effective game that tips the ice toward the opposition. They also have lwest 5 on 5 shooting percentage in the league by quite a lot.
Only Calgary and NYR have had improved as much as LA.
McClelllan got the message from the GM: He wants the Kings to make the playoffs.
If you want to blame anyone for the Kings deployment of Kaliyev or Byfield, blame Blake.
No, but it suggests it's not as a big of a concern as some imply.Does that somehow change the fact that he’s much slower 12 years later?

No coach is perfect. Hes the coach of the kings so thats who we talk about. I watch every game and go to some games so yea i live with the warts.Show me a coach that doesn't....please......it's really a matter of, can you live with the warts he has, knowing he improved the team tenfold
