Good article, Gann, but I disagree a bit with Weal's assessment of his game. Aside from his blunder, he also lost a couple battles and, as Sutter said, seemed nervous.

I'm not writing him off, of course. And I'm glad Weal felt comfortable, but he definitely looked like an NHL rookie out there.

We won't really get a good assessment until he earns some real playing time. You can tell he sees the ice well and is a play maker, something the Kings sorely need. As long as he learns from his mistakes, I think he can be effective in this league. Hopefully he gets a chance.

its understandable if he was nervous.
hope he gets a chance to show his skill set.
i do wonder if he had passed that puck to someone other than nolan -right in front of the net- whether the kings would've tied the game right there.

I want to see how he looks in a victory as well.

SOrt of like in the preseason where nearly everyone looked godawful vs. the Ducks but nearly everyone looked godly vs. the Avs.

I felt bad for the kid on his turnover, but Maybe it is a sign that playing center is an issue for him at the NHL level.

I liked what I saw from him in the o zone on some shifts. He reminded me of Justin Williams with some of his shifty moves along the board. Sutter would never do it, but I'd like to see Weal get shifts with Kopitar and Gaborik or Lucic.

yes he did seem a bit tight.

He drew a penalty, he forced 2-3 turnovers due to his tenacity without the puck, he set up nolan perfectly and won some 3rd period face-offs which is something the three other centers couldn't do.

People will remember the turnover... but i saw some positives.

Well said!

I was more impressed by his will than by his puck play. and like Shore, he's almost always in the right position to jump on a puck; even without size, that's clutch for our forecheck, if we can break up passes before teams leave the zone, they're gonna start thinking.

Yeah, aggressive forecheck doesn't just have to be nailing a D-man...speed and pressing can be just as effective.

I'd like to welcome ZemgusFan. Congratulations on having your first post...and on the Kings board. You started with the best. ;)

ha ha, no kidding right?
just let the kid get his bearings.
7 minutes on NHL ice and we're already assessing him.
jeez... let them bake a little bit.
the team as a whole, included.
[wait... maybe bake isn't the right word  :sarcasm:]

That's Jordan Weal right there, Kid won't be denied.

Weal works and works. Guy just wants it more than others.

Haha. Weal could turn into Trevor Lewis, But with Hands :)

That pass was too perfect, Nolan was so surprised he had no idea what to do until it was too late.
