Is this my birthday? Loving all this draft coverage.

Surprising what he said about Hickey and the difference he might have made last year. Sure would have made a difference at today's draft if we would still have had that first-round pick we sacrificed for Sekera.

This section about Gravel and Turnbull really hit me:

In my first year, Joshua Turnbull (a center, who was selected in the fifth round, 137th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft)—he was a forward who was kind of under the radar,” Yanetti recalled. “He had that same sense, that same subtle way of making things happen [that defenseman prospect Kevin Gravel has]. Then he went to his first development camp and we thought we had a diamond in the rough.”

“But here’s the difference,” Yanetti continued. “They had similar college careers where they didn’t take advantage of our development staff, so that higher level development—he didn’t take full advantage of it. Where you saw the light bulb turn on for Kevin, it never did for Turnbull.”

“He was very content, and he left all this potential on the table. He had the same level of potential as Gravel, the same pitfalls and deficiencies early in his college career. He didn’t do what it took to evolve as a player. He didn’t show that desire and will to take ownership.”

Two roads in the woods.

You forgot to add "Won two cups" to just about everyone on the bottom list there.

It's weird how two recent championships don't buy any good will or patience for some fans. For some of you it's almost like the cups are completely forgotten. I guess that helps you miserable ****s revert back into the whiny, complaining mode that we all got used to as Kings fans.

The point is Dean cant draft top 6 forwards or develop them besides Toffoli. He goes for grinders pretty much every draft hence why they are all bottom 6 forwards and yet our bottom 6 sucks lol. He traded for or Inherited everyone else in the top 6.

He doesnt see the game is evolving with speed and skill and is going to continue to stay behind. Especially with Sutter playing veterans over youngsters who are better than them.

Teubert was part of the trade for Dustin Penner. That worked out.

You should look at these picks 20 years from now. I bet none are in the organization by then. Bums.

Penner was traded for a 1st round pick, that was the biggest piece the Kings gave up.

Everyone knew Teubert was a bust by the time he was traded.

It is true that under Lombardi this staff hasn't shown much in identifying top six talent.

Through 11 drafts, the best forwards who this staff has drafted have been Simmonds, Schenn, Toffoli, Pearson, and Kempe may reach that list in the near future.

They specialize in drafting role players it seems, like King, Nolan, Clifford, Lewis, Andreoff, Shore, Dowd, Mersch, etc.

Botched first round picks also will not help that.

Lots of low end picks will produce role players. If the Kings want a better shot at top six talent, They have to stop trading away first round picks.

Scrivens did more than keep them afloat before Jones took over and started 8-0-0, then was parlayed into a pick that was turned into Gaborik.

That certainly would help, their second round picks have been hit or miss too. Simmonds and Toffoli are the best of that bunch, they've found role guys in Clifford and Andreoff there, but have also passed up some talent as well (like Tatar who many here were clamoring for).

It's almost as if there's more than one way to build a team, particularly when the Cup window is open!

With all this asset mismanagement it's funny how often the Kings are mentioned as a model development franchise with so many homegrown players on their cup winning rosters.

I think Pearson gets undersold in these discussions, too.
