So the glaring goalie issue that everyone could see coming appears to be slapping them in the face now, and the only solutions are acquiring garbage or being taken to the cleaners....great
First call maybe to Chicago for Mrazek if you want a short term answer till summer.
Longer term I would look at Markstrom, Calgary would have to make the cap work somehow.

Yeah goaltending has been pretty shit league wide for a few years now.

Blake's been believing the fairytales of Hill and Binnington and Niemi

Can't say he's not a romantic at heart
With a middle name like Bowlby you’d think he’d spend his time on Long Island drinking Manhattans and screwing the nanny. John Cheever ear your heart out.

Talbot being #1 in goal is bs thinking and planning from the beginning. 36yo with injury history and the same illustrious championship history as our head coach.
Our very bizarre french separatist front office just gets wierder

With no cap space I think Talbot was all that was left .

Absolutely, which is why you have to ask how we ended up with no cap space.
Blake had a hard on for PLD since he was rumored to be on the move from Columbus. I came across a link from a few years ago stating such after the trade this summer. Clearly, he saw how well trading for Lucic worked out for Dean and had to acquire his own great white whale. Not sure what he ever saw in him.

Probably more accurate to say Bergevin had a hard on for PLD, and stuck it in Blake’s ass.

I think its the rules cutting down on sticks into the hands etc.. be interesting to see if more 2 min penalties called over those seasons where save pct got worse

Romantic like hoping a cheap sex worker falls in love with you?

The Kings would be in the same cap position with or without PLD. Iafallo and Vilardi take up just about the same amount of cap.
The difference though is two players who are more productive would take up the cap space instead of one player.

Yeah, I think dumping Iafallo, Durzi, and co. was the right approach.

Dumping Vilardi for a huge AAV center on pace for barely more points than my grandmother was where Blake lost me. But it is what it is we’re stuck with PLD forever one way or another.

I certainly hope PLD's output goes the way of the 2012 Kings, where they were playing the game the right way but just not getting the bounces, but until that happens you're going to have a mismatch between the analytics and the eye test.

I am glad that he is on the right side of the data. The Kings will need that and more going forward, which I think is fair considering the commitment they made to him.

Yeah but how is he on the second Tuesday of every other month against goalies that know a kid that had polio?
I’m not exactly stoked with how PLD has played so far but I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. The one thing he has done well so far is generate quality chances off the rush, generally by powering his way to the net.

He hasn’t generated anything with the sort of consistency expected of an 8.5M dollar player, all the while contributing zero on the defensive side of the puck.

It’s utterly baffling watching such a physically gifted player float around & contribute so little while being paid so much.

At least with a guy like Fiala, you question the decision making & not the effort. PL, on the other hand, looks like he could not be bothered to give a solitary f*** about anything besides his 2x too small gucci suits & where his next oatmilk latte is gonna come from.
