Kings fans are trying to flip it as a worthless player traded for another.
Maybe Weal doesnt work out, but I have no issue with giving him a shot. He does have some good offensive instincts and he is still only 23 with only 10 NHL games under his belt. He wasnt a good fit in the Kings system.
Worse case scenario he id flipped at the deadline or at the draft/this summer for another asset.
I wish Luke the best in LA. I dont think his faults were from the lack of effort. He just is what he is at this point of his career. a bottom pairing defenseman. who can occasionally be plugged into the middle pair.

I know I'll be in the minority here but I think VLC will play quite a bit better in LA. They have far more responsible wingers and a much stronger defense than the flyers have currently. The flyers improved offensively quite a bit with the addition of Ghost and LA already has Muzzin and Doughty who can push the play.

What's funny is that they don't realize that Lecavalier blamed his lack of production on a bunch of different things, including not playing in Lavi's offensive system. Now he's in an even more defensive system than ours... he's going to be horrible, as expected.

They haven't seen VLC play and they just don't understand how happy we are he is off the team, the books and out of the locker room. I will be extremely surprised if he turns it around at all in LA, BUT their saviour is that he is only there for the rest of the season.

Schenn on the other hand, as many have said, should do just fine in a bottom pairing role in LA and I wish him all the best, I've always liked the kid. I hope he earns himself a new contract with them.

What will be funny is that if they end up winning the Stanley Cup again this season they will all come back and claim that they won this trade

The best news about this is that Vinny is retiring this summer, so he'll be off the books next year. The trade is legit. As I have stated often before, I think Vinny isn't done, he just couldn't fit here, so it was worth the risk for LA to take him at 2M for the rest of the year. Low risk, high reward. Luke Schenn for a 3rd is fair value, too. Good hockey trade. I don't know if we should expect something from Weal. Maybe on the bottom 6.

This deal makes a lot of sense for both teams. It gives us a little bit of flexibility this year (not sure if we will really use it) and a 3rd for two pieces we don't want anymore. These pieces can benefit LA, while it's far from certain.

Say whatever you want about the player, but he was never a problem in the locker room.

A lot of Kings fans initial reactions to the trade was "What the ****?"

I still don't get the trade. A regular poster who is a longtime Flyers/Kings fan has been complaining about L. Schenn for awhile. We also had the heads-up on Vinny. Now they're ours and now we're missing both a first and a third in this summer's draft. Hey, welcome to L.A. but we don't have any magic pixie dust that's going to suddenly change their games. At least, as far as I know.

Hextall is a smart man. We were disappointed to lose him but knew it wouldn't be long before he was GM here. Philly's in good hands.

Can Weal immediately take Umberger's place?

A dead goat could do that:laugh:

Hats off to Hextall for pulling off this one. It's not quite on the level of the Clarkson deal, but it's in the same area code.

The strategy of nailing him to the press box worked wonderfully. Broke VC's will/ego/pride to the point of giving up $6 million.

The problem with Vinny is while he may get 5 goals 15 will be scored against him in the same time as a direct result of his defensive incompetence. And if I have to read about the LA family thing again on our boards I may puke. Richards, Voynov, Stoll. If they were so much of a family how come nobody got any of those guys help for their problems and I would bet a lot of money those weren't the only guys on the team with demons. And LA doesn't help them either, DL just ships them out. Every team says they are family though.

Schenn can be a solid third pairing defenseman if you pair him with a mobile D-man and don't ask him to do too much, he's tough, smart, responsible but slow, not great at passing the puck out of the D-zone and useless at the point in the O-zone (high % of shots blocked). As depth for a playoff team he's fine if protected, but as a cornerstone veteran for a rebuilding team focused on mobile D-men he was a dead weight.
Pretty good evaluation of Schenn. Maybe in the West where toughness matters more than the East he can fit in. In the East where teams are playing a quicker game, he's lost out there too often. Anyway he was out of here in five months when his deal ran out.
As for VLC, when the legs are gone, so is your career. Kings fans had better get used to Vinny being behind the play, especially on defense. Perhaps on the PP he will have value; he can still shoot.

I think it's funny that people think Lecavalier can even be a power play specialist. He'll set up for his one time and it will go wide every time, like it did here. Or he'll go to receive a pass and fumble it leading to a short handed chance against.

Just curious, how long has hfboards been around?

Since 2002, I think. I wonder if there are already posters who are younger than hfboards.

Ya, i'm one of the original dinosaurs from 2002 :)

This iteration is from 2002. There was a previous iteration that looked nothing like this prior to that, however. I started visiting this site (Hockey's Future) back in the late 90s - I remember discussing the Flyers picking Gagne! - so, yeah, it's been around awhile. ;)

Kings fans have surpassed delusional. Holy moly, I know most fans try to see the silver lining in everything (aside from our fanbase, Negadelphia) but yikes, they're really suggesting Vinny can even be a quality 4C for them. If they thought Richards was bad at the end of his run there, they haven't seen anything yet. Let em find out the hard way.

It was around that time for me, my handle comes from the game where Kim Johnsson scored the winning goal in the game where Lindros returned to Philadelphia with the Rangers for the first time, which was not long before the boards flipped to vBulletin, but I was around before then. Imagine, in the year 2000, how a Facebook or YouTube comment thread is now, and you could change your name as often as you wanted (since you had no profile).

And all of the posts were organized by most recent reply at the top so you had to just scroll down through all of the posts looking for team specific posts.

I turn 30 relatively soon and I've been posting here since I was 14. I'll officially be a member of these boards for over half my life.
