I don't think he went into that with a slewfoot. It looks like he tries to beat him through the other side, and then the leg is in the way. Ends up going through with it. In the end it was a slewfoot, but I don't think the thought process was I'm going to slewfoot this guy.

1) 3 of his suspensions involved fighting rules that would not apply in the NHL. Plus 1 late instigator that would.
2) 3 were for high crosschecks and 1 sucker punch in retaliation to a cheap shot.
3) One involved spearing a fan.

What i said in another thread about this is that guy is a pos, but it's really looks like that wasn't intentional at all as there's nothing you see from a typical slewfoot.

There's no kick to take both legs out, there's no arm on Spurgeon's shoulder/chest to push him back.

It really looks like they battle, L'Heureux loses his balance and tries to regain it, which cases his lifted leg to hit the back of Spurgeon and take him out and crash into the boards.

I have to imagine the hearing is because of his past in the Q and AHL.

Or it's just to tell him that they will punish him more because of his history in other leagues and give him a fine.

I wouldn’t go as far as this, but it seems like he had his left leg in a position to skew foot and instead of following through he pulled it back at the last minute. Could still be a game.

I find myself often on the side of less games and spouting "the league has just gone soft" but given his suspension history in other leagues, and how incredibly dangerous this specific slew foot looked, i wouldn't be upset at 5+ games. To me that was far more dangerous than most suspendable acts.

I get the same feeling. It was definitely a slew foot but it seems more of a result of motion and subconscious action - and not something preemptive.

On the play, the puck gets dumped in, L'Heureux fights through the first defender, and then Spurgeon is just sort of slowly skating lazily towards the corner, at an angle across L'Heuruex's path with his stick up around thigh level. L'Heureux lifts his stick with almost no resistance, which seems to catch them both off-guard, and on the follow through, he elbows Spurgeon in the shoulder. Spurgeon's skates continue across L'Heureux's path as his upper body is going backwards, and his legs/lower body get taken out by the faster moving player who outweighs him by ~30 lbs, causing him to crash hard into the boards.

I don't disagree it looks like a slewfoot, but I'm struggling to call it intentional, even with L'Heureux's history. It's like a car going 25 under the limit trying to merge onto highway stupidly and getting hit from behind by a SUV doing the speed limit driven by a guy with 3 DUIs and a suspended license.

Im fairly confident he didn't premeditate a Slew Foot. However players know the dangers of the game and the risks of contact and hits especially in certain areas of the ice. It's a fast game and bad things certainly happen but they need to be aware and they need to be accountable.

Ill Sh!t a solid gold brick if Leafy Spurg is back by march 1st. I won't be surprised if he's done for the year. History of leg injuries and he had the back/hip surgery last season. The slow mo shows a violent cascade through the ankle, knee and up into the hip.

Unfortunate. I'd hoped we wouldn't have injuries like last year but frankly this year has been as bad already or even worse so far.

You learn in juniors not to balance yourself by shifting your leg behind the defending player. It's ingrained in players not to react that way. Either L'Heureux did it intentionally or he doesn't have the mental and physical capacity to play ice hockey.

L'Heuruex has enough skill to stick in the league without being a goon. As others have pointed out most of his other suspensions were not related to dirty play/bad hits. This was a bad play and he will pay a price. But his career arc is more "pest who can score some" than straight up "let me hurt someone" sociopath.

Just gonna point out that the vast majority of players in pro hockey manage to avoid getting suspended for violent acts pretty much every single season they play. The bar isn't "only some of his many suspension were for violent acts that risked injuring other players."

Noted scumbag Matt Cooke managed to not get suspended in 10 out of 16 pro seasons. Assuming he gets a suspension for this, as he should, L'Heureux is 0 for 2 so far.
