L’Heureux slewfoots and injures Spurgeon (UPDATE: suspended three games)

Part of the problem is that the moment where you see Heureux move his leg forward into that slewfoot position is obscured by the net.

I think it’s a lot more similar to the Marchand slewfoot than it isn’t.

The main angle shows the leg position just fine.

Answer this question. By rule and the intent of it, how can a it be a slew foot when the slewing foot doesn't cross the parallel plane of the other foot?

If you think this is more similar to the Marchand example I posted than not, then we're just not seeing the same thing.

Uh, go back and look at where his left leg and left arm are at the start of the sequence and where they are when Spurgeon goes down. His left leg comes off the ice and goes up against the back of both of Spurgeon’s legs. His left arm goes in front of Spurgeon’s right shoulder and then pushes him backwards. That’s a textbook slew foot.
Ug, go back and look at where they engage in a battle and the leg doesn't follow through at all. The upper part is just them battling.

Spurgeon lost a battle and ended up going into the boards awkwardly.

Dude deserved the 5 and a game and anything else is pushing it, but Parros makes no f***ing sense when he does anything

I don’t know, when I look at the main angle, the position of his leg is obscured by Trenin’s arm and torso.

I don’t see how you can be so conclusive from that replay.

You'd think the State of Hockey writers and fanbase would recognize what a slew foot is and isn't, but I guess not. We're just too homerish I guess for most to be objective.

It wasn't a slew foot. The rulebook says it isn't. The video says it isn't. Certainly not an intentional play either. It was an unfortunate, scary play that ended up with an injury. Two players went for a battle to the end boards, and this time it didn't end well. Sucks for Spurg, but that's hockey. The penalty in the game was much more than enough. A suspension is just stupid and another example of the league penalizing results instead of actions.

Yes, please look at it again. If a player is trying to slew foot somebody, they don't keep their hands on the stick/lift the opponent's stick in a normal puck battle motion. They don't "sweep" the leg (he didn't) AFTER the opponent has initiated contact. You also must look at where Spurgeon's body is from the start to the end. He's cutting in front of L'Heureux and loses his balance when they make contact. Consequently so does L'Heureux after the contact, and his legs out from him as well. I'll just say the truth straight. This is very arguably not even a penalty.

..we gotta fix our schools or somethin, idk man, what a take. That you L’Huereux?

In the OP there's the first angle that shows him clearly kicking out Spurgeon's feet.

His left leg is kicking the back of Spurgeon's skates and leg forward while at the same time his left arm is pushing Spurgeon's upper body backwards.

That's a slew foot.

Must be nice, not being the Oilers, and having the League actually give a shit if your players get slewfoot and injured:

Sucks, but there are always going to be dickbags in the league.

Suspension doesn't matter much except to put his name on the list for the next one.

this is straight up embarrassing for you

That's a real bad play. Also pretty stupid for Trenin to jump over his injured teammate to try and get at the guy. Nobody ever accused hockey players of being smart I guess.

I thought I was the only one who noticed Trenin. Like, what the hell is he thinking there? Where’s Ehlers when you need him?

The NHL has been very lenient with slewfoots IMO, so interesting to see where this goes.
