And now part 2.
I understand if there are some that don't feel this is necessary simply because Palms was not here nearly as long. But I'm someone who does feel an attachment to the guys who wear our colors and buy in. Palms 100% did that while he was here. He provided our team with a consistent offensive spark that few players ever did consistently. I'm still blown away that his goal production is this impressive for our team history, even if it's probably more an indictment about how few goal scorers we had stay here for an elongated period of time.
Not only did he become a fan favorite for the on-ice performance, but him being a Jersey kid and for what he did in the community with his Squad 21 foundation and military ball. There really couldn't have been a guy who was easier to root for in such a downtrodden time in Devils history.
He became my favorite player on the team when he came over in 15-16 and kept that offensively lifeless team afloat in a lot of ways. He became a permanent staple on our top line ever since. And no matter what anyone says, it won't be the easiest shoes to fill going forward (though I'm hopeful for Holtz or Foote to be able to do it).
I wish Palms all the best and hope he stays active in the community back in NJ still. I'll sorely miss him on a personal level.
All the best to ya, kid!
