The way Dubas gets painted by skeptics is just hilariously off-base. In his tenure, he has:
- Rebuilt the d-core entirely (Brodie, Gio, Muzzin, Sandin)
- Found solid depth pieces giving up very little (Mikheyev, Kampf, Kase, Bunting, Campbell, etc)
- Built up a barren prospect pool by hitting potential slam dunk picks outside the top 50 in virtually every draft (Robertson, Niemela, Knies)
- And cultivated an organizational culture that embraces diversity, accountability, and forward-thinking.

You can certainly criticize his moves, because there have been some suboptimal ones; but to say he's had an overt negative effect on this roster is objectively wrong. It's not his fault the players haven't played up to their standard in the playoffs.

I read this a lot at the start of comments, but when people do, the usual guys go ballistic.

He's toned it down the last year or so, but when he was first hired he was one of those types that thought he was the smartest person in the room. He also made some statements early on in his tenure that certainly could be interpreted as being arrogant.
Like what? I have never got that vibe from any media interactions with him at all.

Man, goalies are so weird, I'm shocked at how rabid you guys are about the goaltending. Leafs sent a goalie to the all star game and half the fan base would rather spend assets on other mediocre goalies than just wait it out.

I would laugh if Mrazek bounced back. Going back and reading these comments would be gold.

Teams were trying to bend Dubas over a barrel to force him to overpay for a goalie, that's why 5 teams bid on Sateri and a dozen more wanted to see it happen. Just enjoy what we have and hope for the best :thumbu:

The way dubas gets painted by his fan boys is just hilariously off-base.

Nhl team prospect ranking:

2017 (year before dubas took over): Leafs were ~13th.

2022: Leafs are ~15th.

That's some impressive prospect pool building.

Also, don't forget trading a 1st round pick for an injured foligno in your resume! I still remember all you guys thinking dubas had just made some awesome move for us. Similar to the Kadri for barrie and kerfoot trade.

What I find interesting is that dubas fan boys will tell us over and over again how amazing he is, "best gm in 20+ years", and yet we are one spot higher in the regular season than when he took over and still have yet to win a single play round.

You would think the lack of progress under dubas would cause some self reflection on their opinions but it appears to not be the case.

the year before Dubas took over would be the 2018 rankings, for the record.

Prospect Pool when Dubas took over was

Johnsson - Engvall - Grundstrom
Timashov - Brooks - Bracco
Dzierkals - Joshua - Korshkov

Greenway - Liljegren
Middleton - Rasanen

It might be worthwhile to consider the type(s) of picks that the Leafs have had since Dubas took over. In the 4 Dubas drafts, he's drafted in the top 25 once -- Rodion Amirov, who obviously had a really unfortunate incident. He's drafted between 26 and 50 once (Rasmus Sandin). He's also graduated and traded prospects since then.

Now yes, of course you can criticize the fact he has traded all of those picks / prospects -- and certainly not all of his moves have turned out well -- but when it comes to the draft -- his team seems to be pretty good at it.

If the leafs Make it far in the playoffs, Kyle should win the GM trophy, the way he built the team is crazy impressive. Look at the defense... We have legit like 6 TOP 4 defenders going into the playoffs 6!!!!

I'm confident that there is not a single gm in the league that is even on the same BALLPARK of hockey knowledge than Kyle. Dude just breeds hockey and is a pure PRODIGY.

Goat gm fo sure let's go Kyle!!
