He is a bad fit for Pens top6 and not needed for the bottom 6.

Reliable middle 6 production. Advanced stats suggest he is better than most fans think. Leads the Pens in hits, 3 cups and great charachter guy. 7 ES points and +6 so far this season.

UFA at the end of the season, 3.75 cap hit.

Would not want to take salary back unless it can be parked in the minors.

Which teams/what value makes sense?

You pretty much made my month reminding me he's UFA at seasons end. Been awhile since I checked that apparently.

Pens fans need to give up on the idea of trading kunitz. He is not what he used to be obviously, but he is not the train wreck some describe him as. He is more valuable to the team than anything the pens would receive in a trade for him. Kunitz will finish the year with the pens and walk during free agency.

Every year pens fans pick one guy as a whipping boy. Kunitz is not tanner glass or scuderi. Kunitz still adds to this team even if his goal scoring numbers are down from years ago.

he is probably better used as a salary dump to acquire a better player.
JVR for Kunitz, Pouliot, 2nd rd pick?

He does not add if he is dragging down Malkin/Kessel which he most certainly is.
I would be fully OK with him if he was a bottom 6 player (as you say, he is still an NHL player), but I doubt that happens.

Yeah basically this. Just let Kunitz ride off into the sunset and finish out this year, unless you can get a clear upgrade for cheap (as in like Kunitz and a 3rd). The hate he's getting is straight up comical, no reasonable discussion with Kunitz happens on this forum due to how much he's a whipping boy.

Oh look, someone else who hasn't watched Pouliot for years. Pouliot does not have "defensive issues", he has consistency issues that stem from him not playing enough.

If he is a 22 year old D who can't crack the bottom pairing of a contender, then why would we want him? He won't ever be more than a #5 or maybe a #4 if he's lucky.

In the same vein as Maata, he got severely over rated a few years ago.

these are observations made, there is a glaring trend in the analysis of DP.

Weren't you the guy who said Dumoulin wasn't anything good?

It's crazy, it's almost like:

1. The Penguins can only play 6 D
2. Pouliot and Schultz aren't reliable enough to be a pair together
3. The Pens have 3 OFD in their lineup already

But yeah, keep pretending you can tell his future just because the Penguins D doesn't suck like the Leafs D.

I know that some have been discussing a Fleury + Kunitz for Sharp + Niemi deal earlier. Pitt would probably have to add slightly more though.

Right now Montreal has a rotation of rookies on LW with Lehkonen, Carr, and now Ghetto trying to find a good 2LW. If around the TDL none of them have taken the spot I would throw PIT a pick for Kunitz since his deal expires in the offseason. At that point maybe you would want to keep him for depth though, who knows.

People really undervalue Kunitz. He is clearly a whipping boy for Pittsburgh fans. Honestly - Kunitz and MAF are the backbone of the Pens and it's absurd that they get brought up in trade conversations so often. Shame on the Pens fans...shame. If the trade doesn't bring anything back like a top 10 OA pick then the Pens have nothing to gain from this. 3.75M is nothing to our cap hit. So happy the Pittsburgh media loves this guy - at least they aren't blinded.
