Still can't believe they spent a 10th OVERALL PICK+ on Markstrom. His GsaX is 0.7 this year. Completely average goaltending. And a huge drop from the GsaX of 13.7 he had last year. I agree with you, if anything the hiring of Keefe is really what has NJ going this year. He's brought the same high tempo, efficient offence from the Leafs to Devils and that's what's really turning it around.
Oilers ruined markstrom.

Lol. True.

My comment on the main boards in response to Ullmark or Markstrom when someone was asking who the Devils should trade for:

"What’s better is neither of those guys. And save the 1st. Find another goalie. Improve team D to support said Goalie."

And also this comment:

"10OA for Markstrom?!? Jacob Markstrom!?!? From the Flames?!?!???!?"

I don’t see anyone defending him when he’s bad. Actually bad. I see debates about what constitutes a good or bad goal. I see debates about what our realistic expectations should be with a 2.6M goalie.

People do blast him when he's good though. Or try to excuse his good performance with angle after angle.
I havent seen anyone defend him when he is legitmatley bad.
I have however seen a lot of posters who rip on Skinner whether its his fault or not....like when the Oilers and their high powered offence score zero goals.

It seems to be pretty clear for many on here...once a poster hates a player then there will be no quarter given.
Its pretty lame but it is what it is.

Easy to say “no one defends him when he’s legitimately bad” when you never admit he was legitimately bad.

I consider Tampa good team, even if their spot in the standings is still middling.
I am happy we beat a good team. We've struggled beating the top tier teams this year (Toronto, Vegas, Carolina, Minnesota).
Next two games in a row also have to face very strong competition. Need to keep beating these good teams.

I would agree with this. I'll add, we should keep in mind Stu is literally saving our asses from the sins of Holland. The Campbell $5M f*** up could have completely ruined the McD era if we were without any viable goaltending. Stu thrust into this situation has done admirably.

Now this doesn't mean we can't look at his goals against and have comments about his ability/performance. What gets alot of posters pissed, is the PERSONAL attacks on Stu like they hate him on personal level. Maybe we should give him a little leeway there, considering the biggest mistake we made on the goaltending front was Campbell and the only reason we are partly saved in that situation is cause Stu has stepped up to be good enough. Not great, but good enough.
Yup, he was thrust into a spot he probably wasn't ready for because management f***ed up enormously with the Campbell signing.

This is true, and Perry is still contributing in limited minutes far above expectations. God love him, but Ryan is past his best before date.

Ryan definitely overachieved in 23/24, but his drop off in 23/24 was still manageable. This year he just shouldn’t be a regular, as he’s okay in his own zone but out side of that he struggles to keep up.

He is outscoring most of the Oiler forwards at the moment so I will take him as a daily player on the 4th line and PP2.
