Value of: Kris Russell to New York

If the rangers could get rid of Girardi, and Russell signs for less than 3 million on a 1-2 year deal, is that a decent plan for them? They likely won't be a top team in the east, so trading Russell at the deadline for picks might not be the hardest thing in the world.

Or is it too outlandish to think they would actually buy out Girardi?

By all appearances Jeff Gorton has no intention on buying out Dan Girardi. The feeling within the organization is that Girardi's play suffered last season due to injuries and that he will bounce back. Maybe it's just hope and a prayer but Girardi has been a good soldier for many years and decision makers in sports are loyal folk unless your name is Bill Belichick.

If a defensemen gets moved off the Rangers blueline, the smart money is on Kevin Klein.

Can you stop making threads about the Rangers? Every ****ing day. Tanner Glass. Cam Fowler. Dan Girardi.

Go outside and enjoy the fresh air.

On whether he considered buying out Dan Girardi:

“I know that Dan Girardi’s taken a beating in the media here, but you’re talking about a player that’s 32, that’s had a significant injury. We’ve seen some real good production from him for many years, and he did, by all accounts, not have the kind of year we wanted or he wanted. But we expect Dan to be better and he expects to be better, and the buyout, it just didn’t make sense for us if you look at it from all sides. It’s something I never considered. I really believe, and the organization believes, that Dan Girardi will be better this season.â€

Russell is significantly better than Girardi despite his reputation however the Rangers aren't going to buy out Girardi. What changed from 2-3 weeks ago? Nothing they still don't need the space and now there is nobody left to sign.

Another after effect of the completely unnecessary Holden trade. That extra cap space would have been really helpful seeing how the FA market developed.
