Confirmed Trade: [NYR/ANA] Chris Kreider and 2025 4th for Carey Terrance and 2025 3rd

This is a terrible deal by the very nature that this isn't going to prove to be a long-term solution. Kreider is not the missing piece for Anaheim to get back in the playoffs. Now, Anaheim has the cap space to make it work and have plenty of room, but Kreider is a depreciating asset on a 6.5m contract for the next two seasons. They essentially bite the bullet on the cap space while giving up a prospect and pick. Trouba hasn't really worked like they hoped.
This has Zegras hands all over it. Zegras always wanted to play with Krieder

No one is expecting it to be long term?

Another deal where everyone freaks out saying it’s bad for Anaheim when the cap space for this term makes ZERO difference to the team. Yet our team gets better out of it.

Way too many overreactions. Anaheim improved with not really bad side for them.

Great move by ANA.

It’s a cap world and CK is 34 coming off of his worst season. But this old falling off the cliff crap is way too much. He was injured and had vertigo. Great locker room guy (which no one cares about), one of the best PP players in the league (if it’s not 5v5 it doesn’t count, right?), one year removed from consecutive monster seasons.

As for NYR, hopefully the money is well spent since this has been in the works for several years.

The absolute worst case scenario here is that all the 2025 and 2026 RFAs push the Ducks up to the cap and beyond next summer, and additionally Kreider has such a bad 25/26 season that he has negative trade value and can't be traded without wasting assets. That would probably lead to a Killorn buyout (which is a $2.0834m cap hit each year for 2 seasons) or a Kreider buyout ($3.84m cap hit season 1 and then $1.34m cap hit season 2). It seems very unlikely to happen IMO, but even if it does, it looks very manageable to me.

Kreider had a weird season last year but assuming he’s healthy he’s a good middle six forward. Very good defensively and a good special teamer. Problem with him and NYR now is other players defer to him too much and he’s not that guy. It’s just hard for him to fit in as 3LW with his history on the team.
A new start in a more appropriate role would do wonders for him.

All the good that Kreider did for the organization during his tenure went completely out the window when he quit on the team last season. Launch this loser into the sun. Threw a pity party because his country club croquet buddy Trouba got traded, now they can play patty cake in Anaheim together

I think he’s more useful than Trouba was when he left the Rangers for SoCal. He’s aging into kind of a special teams role player. He’s certainly not cheap for a guy who is likely purely a bottom six guy at even strength but if the cap isn’t a worry the next couple of years…you can plug him into some second team PP and PK units pretty easily with his speed and size.
This. If he’s on a team where he’s a role player and third liner at even strength, he’s going to be excellent. He’s a bit overpaid but not much. He’ll probably still put in 25 goals all told.

The Ducks have been so dreadfully terrible on both special teams, if he can help on one or both of those - he'll be worth the gamble even if he has to be sat for 5on5.

Plus the Ducks were right near the bottom for finishing high danger chances. They have play drivers who create opportunities (Terry, Carlsson, Zegras, McTavish etc) but really lack pure finishers. Gauthier will grow into one, possibly Sennecke as well - but Kreider can help bridge the gap to their big breakouts. The good version of Kreider is exactly what the Ducks lack up front - for just 2 years and 6.5M he's well worth the risk for them.

The entire team quit.

Really annoying that these teams keep bailing out the Rangers with their bad contracts.

Though on the other hand, Drury with money to spend in a bad FA class could be hilarious....

Bad contract? He had one bad season due to injury, and in a year where every Ranger regressed. He still managed 20+ goals in 68 games. Ducks need goal scorers, they need net front presence , on the PP.

I like it. FAR better to go get a declining vet, one who can teach the youngsters how to go to the net among other things...hopefully they can stay on their skates a bit better though... , on a short term contract before July 1st. After then PV may be tempted to get a similar player who's UFA but will demand 5-6 years on their contract.

Right now all it looks to cost is some money (of which the owner said to spend some), a player that looks like would never make the team, & a pick. Hard to go wrong there.

Even if all he does is play on the PP/PK, that's fine. It's not like Anaheim can get any worse... And if he does bounce back then, especially with retention can probably be flipped for far more than he cost. And if not then he'll be gone in two years...before all the young guns need their contracts & cap space might become an issue.
