This, to me, means that CK is gone. The team is resting its most valuable assets. All-Star designation (and low risk of injury at All Star game) raises Kreider’s value. Sad — but I don’t see another explanation ... unless, of course, he volunteered.

But good for Kreider and the Rangers in terms of if not raising his value then at least giving more support to whatever the Rangers trade demands are.

Zibanejad and Kreider give every appearance of being as close as brothers. My own guess is that Mika talked with management about declining so Kreider could make an All Star appearance as a Ranger in case he never had that chance again. FWIW, I believe... based on not much, I guess... this is also why there's not a captain this year. Suspect the inclination is to name Zibanejad but he did not want to accept it in the current circumstance vis a vis Kreider and management was OK with that.
