So @Edge Where do we go from here with Kravy? From what you have said in previous posts, this relationship cant and wont be repaired. So what is the type of return we should see on Kravy?

Buried in this mess is this shit tier take

Yep, super "shit tier" take. Let's keep drafting wingers and defensemen with our 1st round picks until we have 20 pissed off young talented players with no spot and are forced to trade them for pennies on the dollar. Seems like a much better plan, how are you not a GM?

In the grand scheme of things, management had already moved on from Vitali and Vitali had already moved on from the organization. If Drury is all Drury in the office as he is on the ice, then moving on was always the end result. Too bad it happened in a dramatic fashion like this. Hopefully we get a good return for a younger player so we will have 1 less bridge deal to fit under the cap in 3 years and maybe a center as well.

I'll repeat something from a friend who works for another organization. Right, wrong or otherwise, here was his response:

"Part of the challenge for the Rangers with some of these higher European picks has been that they took guys who didn't need to make it to the NHL to be okay. Lias is the son of an NHLer who has lived a comfortable life and could continue to live a comfortable life even if he told the Rangers to go jump in a lake. Kravtsov comes from an affluent family and has never faced the prospect of failure resulting in having to go work in a factory somewhere."

Yup I remember you or someone saying something like that before as well. But again...know what you're getting, scout the player better, or have a better plan for dealing with anything that comes up related to it

The best you can hope for is players in similar situations. Former first round picks from the same general ballpark.

The early consensus is that Kravtsov has the skill to make it and probably could've/would've made quite a few opening night rosters. That helps.

But I wouldn't expect a windfall. So far the interest out west seems to be where the early chatter is.

Totally agree.

You know how you end up with a center... just draft one instead of another winger when you already have nearly $20M a year locked up on your wings already

2nd round pick for Kravtsov?

CJ is using the Andersson trade as a comparable.

Kravtsov has one more year remaining on his NHL contract. This guy is going back home when things don't work out. Can the Rangers get a 2nd round pick?

The thing with personality concerns is that they don't matter to a lot of people until they matter, you know?

You say, "Eh, there are some concerns about this guy" or "You know the dream might exceed the reality" and you have some people absolutely lose their ever-loving minds.

The heart wants what it wants and its very easy to dismiss the things you don't want to hear. Whether it's a trade people want, or someone being named captain, people fall in love with their perception of a player and swaying them from that perception can get very personal.

Detroit is “west” enough. Let’s make the Larkin deal happen.

2nd round pick for a kid who could conceivably be in a lot of Top 6 NHL lineups would certainly sting.

Buffalo fan trying to dunk on us because of a disgruntled player?

That can't be right.

Jack isn't worth much these days. If we had dollar for every time we heard Eichel will be traded sooner rather than later or the Adams is working the phones trying to trade Eichel, we would be swimming in crypto and NFT's by now. Vitali might play an NHL game this season.

Kravtsov has the option to trigger the European Assignment Clause that was added to his entry level contract and signed by both parties. The clause can be triggered at any time during the season and will result in Kravtsov then returning to the KHL to the team that owns his KHL rights, (Traktor Chelyabinsk?). In the event of the EAC being triggered, Kravtsov will remain with his KHL team until their season is over, after which he would be obliged to return to the NHL. The timeline of that return could coincide with the NHL trade deadline.

If only Kravstov (a high first round pick) ever showed literally any of the promise Lafreniere has shown.

Yeah I get that Laf is our 1st overall and we all wanna love him, but please. If you think Kravtsov has played dramatically worse than Lafreniere, you aren't watching. Kravtsov has played very well in the minutes he's gotten for us, on both sides of the puck. Let me put it this way - if these two players were drafted in the other's draft position, Lafreniere would be the one in the AHL.

He's milking the 1OA status for everything it's worth. The dude can't finish a 50 second shift without getting to the bench looking like he's gonna keel over and die. I'm by no means saying Kravtsov is a far and away better player than Laf, but they are WAY closer than what you're making it out to be.

Either way you slice it, we're going to lose a talented forward for pennies on the dollar here. Due to complete and total organizational mismanagement of draft picks and prospects. Not because Kravtsov couldn't "make the team" over Dryden Hunt and Libor Hajek. Drury tried to be slick and send a waiver exempt player down so that he could try and get a 6th round pick for Hajek. Our rookie GM played a stupid game and won a very stupid prize

Never even thought about this angle, but it does make absolute sense. Some of this applies to what Toronto went through with Nylander, and what B. Tkachuck is going through with Ottawa. They have fathers, who know the game, and are willing to push teams more. And while Kravtsov doesn't have those NHL connections, he does know he can still have a professional hockey career in Russia should all this go awry in the NHL.

In the end, while I think Kravtsov isn't the big victim here with his tantrum, what was the Rangers plan when they traded away Buch? I mean surely, they had Kravtsov penciled in the starting line-up when they committed to that trade? Obviously Kreider was the fall back, but should it have been this way? If (and when) Kakko and Laf pan out, we are going to be just fine even if Kravtsov is gone. But kinda like with Buch, surely we could've done better with our assets here.

Most everyone I know has worked for a living, worked to survive. And with that all kinds of uninvited shit becomes routine to their existences so this kind of behavior from Vitali does not come over well. Makes him look like a privileged jerk. He is young and one would hope that one day he’ll be better than this.

There’s almost always some blame, some f*** ups on both sides (not necessarily equal) when a relationship goes sour. It’s quite clear that the Rangers should have moved on from him months ago.
