Really disappointing but imo not the orgs fault. His play didn’t demand a spot and plenty of great players have spent some time on Hartford. He’s not above it.

I’m sure there’s plenty of interest, is that interest at a good price for the Rangers?

Probably not

Everyone will want a reclamation project with tons of talent for cheap. There’s a reason Puljujarvi was never traded though.

Part of the challenge right now is that we have a scenario where they don't want to put Kreider on the third line (to the point of experimenting with him on the right side), they have a bunch of guys who are in that maybe third line category already in Blais, Goodrow, Gauthier, Barron, and even Chytil until a spot frees up.

At some point, if that's the approach, you just run out of viable options to play Kravtsov.

Other factors aside, this wouldn't have been my approach anyway. But that's a whole other conversation.
I think the point is moot now. I think Kravtsov is done playing for the Rangers. It's a shame too cause he could have moved up in the lineup a lot easier than those other players you mentioned,... in the event there was an injury to a top six forward. That's my opinion. But again that point is moot now too.

This fiasco might have settled nightly roster spots. It will keep Hunt and Gauthier clear of the waiver wire. And neither looked bad in the preseason. They don't have Vitali's skill but they are useful bottom six players.

And if we need callups, we have Barron and Cuylle. Cuylle is a big kid and impressed in camp.

Yes. He is clearly an incredibly talented player, and I can’t blame him for feeling sleighted and insulted.

When he produces with another team, I’m sure you all will be changing your tune. I get that it’s a tight squeeze as we have a lot of talent, but there’s absolutely space for him in the top 9.

Talent, yes. Hell, Zherdev was talented. DeAngelo is talented. It's what's between the ears that's concerning.

He had to know going into camp that at least 4-5 guys were ahead of him in roster spots - Kakko, Lafreniere, Panarin, Kreider and that he had to show "new" management and coaching that he's the next guy. He didn't - he was outplayed by Blais, Goodrow, hell, even Hunt and Gauthier did more to earn a spot.

Couple that with waiver requirements (and possibly losing) for some of those guys and that makes his making the roster even more precarious.

If he puts it together he certainly has a lot of promise but there wasn't a spot for him immediately on this team. Sending him to the AHL was the right call even if it wasn't the right call FOR HIM.

Kravtsov was never going to be a popular guy in the locker room, and has some social issues. He doesn't like fan interaction, he's pretty arrogant. But that was all fine as long as he could show what he has done on the ice.

This garbage situation was created by Drury, but Kravtsov f***ed it up to the point of no return. I can't even defend it if I wanted to. This wasn't a situation where team and player disagreed about medical treatment like with Lias. No, Kravtsov refusing to report to Hartford the day he is demoted is just bad.

how can you blame this on drury when the kid did this his first time here too? Then embarrassed himself in Russia and got demoted from friggen Traktor. This is an inherited problem for Drury who owes this kid NOTHING. Not his pick. This kid should have showed up ready to show the new coaching staff he meant business he got outplayed by almost everyone.

Even if this works out, we already know this guy is going to sulk the first time he's benched or doesn't get enough playing time. This is why teams scout these players not only for their talent, but also for their character. The Rangers obviously either didn't do their homework in that regard, or were willing to gamble. Either way now they've got a malcontent and will have to deal with him or deal him. Personally I despise players like this.

I think if the relationship was this fragile, you can take one of several approaches.

You don't ever let it get to this point, because this is what happens. So that means you make a trade prior to this point.

If there's no trade to be had, you sit down with his people, get a feel for where their out and potentially pursue a roster move without putting yourself behind the gun of having a suspended player (again) and entering into a situation that does neither the Rangers nor Kravtsov any favors. I don't get the sense that happened.

I would also argue that based on the uncertainty surrounding some of the other options on the right side, it's probably in their best interest to carry the extra forward (at least temporarily) rather than the two extra defenseman.

From an asset management standpoint, not feelings or egos or anything else, I don't think you take this approach because you're afraid of exposing one of Hunt, Hajek or Tinordi to waivers. Gauthier I can understand though.
Stop. You're making too much sense.

This actually is the opposite apparently

Drury went to Russia to scout him numerous times and was one of the people pushing to take him

so if anything this totally his pick and situation lol
Kravtsov, Hajek, Jones, and next year's 1st for Larkin. Detroit think about it?
Maybe if Drury sends this offer over to Yzerman at 11pm on a Friday when he’s a few whiskeys deep haha
