Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results. How in the world, did management not learn there lessons from Tony D? Waited till the last straw, once it broke, he became untradeable and we got nothing for him. 8 months later and we are in the exact same spot. These guys are incompetent.
Gordie Clark, Glen Sather, Chris Drury, James Dolan...
We need new ownership and new management. Drury hurt us as a player and now he's doing it as a GM. Go back to Buffalo!
So who is on your short list for new owner?

Owners don’t get fired

C’mon man.

With Kravy out, others move up. And the lineup for the Caps and most likely the Stars (their a heavy team also),... is not what we will see in the weeks ahead. They are going top heavy for those two games,... while keeping their options open for those who can't clear waivers,.. hoping to make some late breaking deal.
I was thinking this too, to go for the bigger guys in the game vs the Caps.

Frankly, I don't think either side did themselves any favors.
Again, on the surface, I’m not sure what else the Rangers could have done. Kravtsov was injured most of the pre-season. Unless the Rangers messaging was poor - which is possible.
But materially, the other options are gifting him a top nine role and rostering him and sitting him in the press box. Kravtsov spending a few weeks on the top line in Hartford is completely reasonable.

Part of the challenge right now is that we have a scenario where they don't want to put Kreider on the third line (to the point of experimenting with him on the right side), they have a bunch of guys who are in that maybe third line category already in Blais, Goodrow, Gauthier, Barron, and even Chytil until a spot frees up.

At some point, if that's the approach, you just run out of viable options to play Kravtsov.

Other factors aside, this wouldn't have been my approach anyway. But that's a whole other conversation.

What would've been your approach? Asking for a friend. Actually, actually on behalf of the entire board, who respects you.

I dunno, based on what I saw in preseason the wing depth chart is probably:

Panarin
Lafreniere
Kakko
Kreider
Goodrow
Blais
Hunt / Gauthier / Kravtsov all close with Hunt and Gauthier a nudge ahead

Who does the Kravster think he should've slotted in front of, exactly? He's top 9 on some teams, possibly top 6 on a few but he's exactly where he's supposed to be with this organization. The AHL.
Krav should be the 2RW. Kreider should be the 3rd line LW with Chytil and Blais. Goodrow should be on the 4th line

Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Laf-Zib-Krav
Kreider-Chytil-Blais
Goodrow-Rooney-Goth/Reaves

That should be our lineup.

yeah it’s not a good look for him. You want to weed these type of people out.

though if he ends up blossoming somewhere else it’s going to make keeping Kreider look even worse than it already does.

After the initial sting from the realization that the team won't have his talent and services, yes, definitely want to weed them out. They want to start a new culture here, and as someone said earlier, can't be having malcontents in the room at Game 1 of a long season. If I am Kravtsov, I'd do the same thing 10 out of 10 times. If am Kravtsov, I know I'm better than most AHLers at this point and I can hedge a bet on my career on another NHL team and ply my trade there.

Thanks for asking.

He should have been traded after the 1st incident... once things settled down... and Stevie Y was interested.

The guy who's scored 2 career NHL goals and has had a "meh" camp is slotting next to your 8.5M #1 center? Based on what?

Goodrow should be on the 3rd line. Kreider on 2nd. Kravtsov is where he belongs.

And you’re kidding yourself if you think he’d outplay cuylle or Brett Berard on the wing when they get here too. Or frankly Pajuniemi who just continues to work hard and score at every level.

When the draft is over it’s over and it’s up to you to prove you’re an NHLer. He’s done nothing.

Yes. He is clearly an incredibly talented player, and I can’t blame him for feeling sleighted and insulted.

When he produces with another team, I’m sure you all will be changing your tune. I get that it’s a tight squeeze as we have a lot of talent, but there’s absolutely space for him in the top 9.

Here's my thing, I'm not even talking about catering.

If this type of reaction is still a concern, after everything that already happened, then you make a pro-active move.

We apparently like to deal with volatile situations. That's fine, but then you can't keep chasing after situations. At some point you try to maximize value, even if it' not ideal, BEFORE the shit hits the fan.
Yep. Same with the de Angelo thing. This is the job of a Team President. We seem to suck at reading the road ahead.

Goodrow was third among forwards in TOI for a cup winning team. Kravstov scored a tap in during preseason. I like him as a prospect but in no just world is he two lines above Goodrow based on anything logical

You really should stop misrepresenting what I said because it doesn’t fit your narrative.

I’m not misrepresenting anything. I quoted the exact phrase calling him a luxury. A forward of Kravtsov’s perceived skill level is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for us medium to long term if we want to be a consistent contender and Cup winner.

If you agree with me, it’s good to know that you didn’t really mean he was a luxury.

At first you get exited, then you remember we got Blais and 2nd for Buch.

Also, you have to remember, this quote isn't coming from the NYR. It's coming from the agent, Dan Milstein. Just like all those other leaks re: Eichel came from Peter Fish and now Pat Brisson. The agent doesn't have the same stake in fair value as the team does. So, when Milstein says there's lots of interest it doesn't correlate to anything related to value, just receiving calls. So, it's just a big grain of salt.

I think if the relationship was this fragile, you can take one of several approaches.

You don't ever let it get to this point, because this is what happens. So that means you make a trade prior to this point.

If there's no trade to be had, you sit down with his people, get a feel for where their out and potentially pursue a roster move without putting yourself behind the gun of having a suspended player (again) and entering into a situation that does neither the Rangers nor Kravtsov any favors. I don't get the sense that happened.

I would also argue that based on the uncertainty surrounding some of the other options on the right side, it's probably in their best interest to carry the extra forward (at least temporarily) rather than the two extra defenseman.

From an asset management standpoint, not feelings or egos or anything else, I don't think you take this approach because you're afraid of exposing one of Hunt, Hajek or Tinordi to waivers. Gauthier I can understand though.
