Someone in this thread had asked about Kravtsov's offseason. Here at 25 seconds he says "Whole summer, I didn't play at all. Like I play one and a half games that didn't count."

And apparently the his exit interview last year was contentious due to the Rangers having issues with his offseason training.

Based on all of the evidence we have and what we the fans know, it seems that Kravtsov is an entitled kid who thinks he deserves more than he's earned. He thought he should've been gifted a top6 spot last year when he arrived, which is just stupid. He doesn't train to the level we expect out of professionals, he pouts and runs away when he faces adversity. I remember the word being his family was very well off and connected in Russia so the spoiled entitled attitude could come from there. Seems he's incredibly immature and is going to have to grow not only on the ice, but off the ice physically and mentally big time if he wants to be a legitimate NHL player. If not, he can go home and be a KHL star.

Let's even throw the appeasing narrative out for a second.

The Rangers are in a shitty situation with a player who walked away once before and had a contentious exit interview to end last season.

At some point, it has nothing to do with appeasing. It's about strategically not shooting yourself in the foot based on timing that doesn't get you closer to the better possible outcome.

You either move him before you get to this point, or you but yourself cover to maximize a return without causing a scene or raising the odds of decreasing value.

At the end of the day it's really not about appeasing or VK's feelings.

Welp, I think there are so many moving parts. Kravtsov was likely going to be a component in an Eichel trade. Said Eichel trade was an option until, well, the same day as the rosters were finalized. Could Drury have tried cooking up another deal in the meantime? Sure. He was likely not pulling the trigger on it until rosters were finalized anyway.

I think the bigger point here is that the NHL is changing before our eyes. Players, highly touted ones, are trying to control their destiny a lot more than ever before.

Lias and VK refused to play by the traditional rules. In some way so did JP in Edmonton, JE in Buffalo and countless others. Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba forced their way to us. Nash before that.

Even Nils decided to wait until this year to sign when he had all the cards and could basically tell management, I'm not signing unless I have some guarantee that I'm starting with the big club.

It's the new NHL. This is only going to happen more and more.

Is this bad asset management? I mean, maybe? But on some level, we literally moved Buch so that VK had a shot at top 6. VK got hurt. Stuff happens. But it's up to him to understand the process. And even with brand new management, he refused. It's on him. If this was still Gorton and JD, one could chalk it up to just more mismanagement of a relationship. But Dru/Gallant likely offered the kid a reboot. And the kid went off and pouted as opposed to being a pro.

What does he owe to the club? I can see where he feels he may have been jerked around OR he realizes he is not going to get a top-6 role here, so why not move on? Is his salary the same if he is in Hartford vs the big club? If not, I can certainly see where he has an issue considering he can make a hell of a lot more money in the KHL than the AHL.

I get the fans perspective, but for the players it is their business first and foremost. They have a finite time to make as much money as possible. Fans also love to compare these players to regular people working a 9-5 job. Well, people quit jobs leave for rival companies all the time if they feel they were unjustly demoted, passed up for a promotion, asked to take a paycut.
He signed a contract, he owes his employers (the club) the terms of that contract as well as following NHLPA rules. If he was worried about the pay disparity or lack of a guarantee, he should have stayed where he was. You are correct, in a right to work environment one can leave at will (respecting valid NDAs and compete clauses). These are 2 different employment models.

Just checking back in to let you know that this is still a huge f***ing disappointment. Can't wait for the games to start so I don't have to sit around thinking about this.

I'm not gonna harp on the pick itself. I try to do that less these days. It's mostly luck.

Farabee would be nice but the obvious pick there was Wahlstrom, so Farabee kinda feels like "let's just pick out a name to sit on the pity potty." Like when we revisit McIlrath and go to Tarasenko six picks later.

And as for Wahlstrom, he's a good prospect. Is he life-changing right now considering what we already have at wing? Not really.
Yeah I know a few people liked Farabee at the time but he wasn't the "obvious" pick that most wanted. That, as you said, was Wahlstrom, and I can do with him, too.

Late again..
Disappointing but not surprising
This is the russian factor in play and the fact the ahl is such a garbage league.. He can make a lot more money and live in luxury in KHL
AHL you're on buses making very little money..
Wish the wealth was spread a little more evenly thru the nhl and ahl
How management didnt see this coming says just how inept they are.
Pathetic

Drury's gonna have to get into some roleplay from now on for predraft prospect interviews. "I want you to pretend it's 2 years from now, you're 20, it's October and we just gave the last spot to Joe Slapshot, you just got a call from your agent saying you're going to be sent down to Hartford. Tell me how you're feeling and if you have an overwhelming urge to demand a trade"

Sources say Kravtsov’s new agent, Dan Milstein, has been given permission by the Rangers to seek a fresh start with another franchise. Kravtsov changed agents over the summer, likely with this exact scenario in mind – as it was no secret that he has little interest in playing in the AHL.

Kravtsov has spent parts of each of the last two seasons playing back in his native Russia. While the Rangers have fired the two people responsible for drafting Kravtsov in GM Jeff Gorton and Director of European Scouting Nick Bobrov, at this point, the Rangers would certainly not be willing to terminate Kravtsov’s contract to make him a free agent. If he does decide to return to Russia this time, it would likely be on a loan, at which point the Rangers would own his rights until the age of 27, even after his entry-level contract expires at the end of this season.

Kravtsov has two goals and two assists for four points in 20 career NHL games. His teammates have lauded his elite-level hockey sense, but have wondered privately about his work ethic and interest in winning puck battles – having earned the reputation of ‘floating’ on the ice.

Did VK really miss his sister's wedding to go to the bubble, where he didn't play a game in?

Yeah.... VK handled this horribly, but this is a massive organization problem.

We already forgetting how much Quinn f***ed with Kakko, to the point where Kakko said so in the media at home?

Drury is a pair of clown shoes and his pizza also sucks lol

"You're in Connecticut, just paroozing around, fitting in with all the other well to do New Englanders. Suddenly it hits. Pizza craving. SALLYS OR COLONY GO!"

Hopefully just a footnote in the season.

Choosing Hajek aside, was it a good call to cut him? Was he dogging it in the pre-season? Assumed he had a spot no matter what?

What can we hope to get in return for a disgruntled flight risk? Blais 2.0? Or something more sexy?

In fact, there were people actively arguing against him.

In some ways he was a divisive prospect for this board.

A lot of people did not love the skill, and that was during the phase where fans really pushing for homerun swings.

But man did I love him as a prospect.

While Krav's play was foolish and childish,... and should not belong in the NHL,... Drury and management are truly dropping the ball. We all know the preseason,... is to put together the best team possible to win hockey games. The players are told if they work hard and show their best they can win spots on the team. And then they pull the rug out from underneath them because of roster, eligibility requirements and business concerns. Let's get real. We are not putting the best players on the ice opening day. That is obvious. The whole work hard and earn a spot is a shame.

Gallant used Krav's injury as some sort of setback, but did it effect Reaves ability to play opening night? It is a double standard.

Of course he stood in front of the mic and touted Hunt and Gauthier won their spots outright, otherwise the whole ruse will fall apart. When we all know this had nothing to do with who won spots. It was all a business decision, on who was waiver exempt plain and simple.

It's a total shame. At least they should be honest with their players, if not with the fan base. And something tells me they weren't honest with Kravtsov.

I think all those guys were competing for different spots than Kravtsov. Those are 4th liners and the spare forward. You think after all we've heard that Kravtsov would have been happy to "make the team" on the 4th line or be a spare forward? Not to mention that Gallant and management have been clear they want that 4th line to be a crash and bang physical in your face line.

Kravtsov's competition ended up being Blais and Blais won the spot

So at the end of the day, it sounds like the writing was on the wall here for some time. It was clear that there were issues with the relationship between the team and the player. The team gambled that they could make it work (for whatever reason--genuine belief he'd get it, trade for Eichel, etc.) and it didn't. The gambled backfired. I don't think it's a terrible loss, though it is a loss.

I'm moving on.

I'm sure they'll call Arizona.
