Said it last season but best case would have been him staying with traktor another year or two. I'm guessing Kravtsov was not gonna go for that?! He would have come over at 23 years old with more maturity physically and mentally

Let's say they waived Hajek and kept Kravtsov as the 14th forward. Are we having this same conversation in ten days anyway and now it's a distraction that started while games are going?

Exactly.

I get what people are saying when they argue "well just cut Hajek" because f*** that dude anyhow, but when you get to the point of having to appease a player so he cooperates with team decisions, the issue has become bigger than roster logistics.

Let's even throw the appeasing narrative out for a second.

The Rangers are in a shitty situation with a player who walked away once before and had a contentious exit interview to end last season.

At some point, it has nothing to do with appeasing. It's about strategically not shooting yourself in the foot based on timing that doesn't get you closer to the better possible outcome.

You either move him before you get to this point, or you but yourself cover to maximize a return without causing a scene or raising the odds of decreasing value.

At the end of the day it's really not about appeasing or VK's feelings.

Yamamoto, in a heartbeat.

Hyman-McDavid-Puljujaarvi
Foegele-Draisatl-Kravtsov
______-RNH-Yamamoto

It spreads their scoring out much better
Not sure I like the message that sends bumping the guy who paid his dues and earned his spot for the guy who feels he's above it while showing very little.

I'm not gonna harp on the pick itself. I try to do that less these days. It's mostly luck.

Farabee would be nice but the obvious pick there was Wahlstrom, so Farabee kinda feels like "let's just pick out a name to sit on the pity potty." Like when we revisit McIlrath and go to Tarasenko six picks later.

And as for Wahlstrom, he's a good prospect. Is he life-changing right now considering what we already have at wing? Not really.
You had me until Tarasenko. Farabee was a guy a couple of us here chatted up, but he was clearly behind Wahlstrom and Dobson on the pick list. You can’t complain about that one.

Tarasenko was a guy we were doing backflips watching drop. Just because a couple of teams after us passed as well doesn’t change the fact that he was the “obvious” pick for many people at 10 that year.

It's a business. You play the best player. Throw Kravtsov on the 3rd line there and the point is really the same. They need inexpensive offensive talent

I get that, but at the same time, I also feel like this situation wouldn't have been a secret around the league. You would know better than I would, but I'm not sure this tanks his value as much as people are implying.

I'm sure DeAngelo was shopped before the shit hit the fan, but front offices around the league knew the baggage before we did.

This is exactly right. Regardless of whose “fault” this is, the Rangers FO has handled this really poorly. It’s Deangelo revisited, but likely worse given VK’s implied value.

Assess the situation. Make your decision. Handle shit internally.

Why does the whole world need to know about this organization’s dirty laundry while they are planning personnel decisions?

I would've 100% drafted Quinton Byfield. I said it pre draft.

Buchnevich would likely still be here or Kravtsov would have a spot. Let Chytil and Byfield kill each other for the 3C position.

Probably could've sold high on Strome as well instead of resigning him. Obviously hindsights 20/20 and Byfield got hurt but he was the player this organization needed to draft. This is now what we get

According to Larry's Post article today, it sounds like it was a total clusterf***.
Ah I just read it. It was Mollie Walker’s article. Yeah if he had a really bad exit interview plus the bullshit he pulled before that when he went back to Russia? He should have been traded before it got to this point and now his value is lower.

I think fans kind of argue it both ways with Drury.

When he does something that elicits some concern, the argument is that the old regime would've done the same thing and so if you don't like Drury's moves then you don't like what Gorton would've done.

When he does something they like, it's something that the old regime wasn't prepared to do.

The truth is he's probably closer to the thinking of the old regime than anything else, and he was very involved in the work. So some of the approach (both good and bad) is probably closer to Gorton and company than not.

Ok, but:

a) I'm not seeing reporting that "incriminates" him in the bad drafting.

b) He has taken steps to remove those who were.

I mean - what difference does a fan's opinion make if the new GM is recognizing staff that's not performing and taking steps to replace them?

While Krav's play was foolish and childish,... and should not belong in the NHL,... Drury and management are truly dropping the ball. We all know the preseason,... is to put together the best team possible to win hockey games. The players are told if they work hard and show their best they can win spots on the team. And then they pull the rug out from underneath them because of roster, eligibility requirements and business concerns. Let's get real. We are not putting the best players on the ice opening day. That is obvious. The whole work hard and earn a spot is a shame.

Gallant used Krav's injury as some sort of setback, but did it effect Reaves ability to play opening night? It is a double standard.

Of course he stood in front of the mic and touted Hunt and Gauthier won their spots outright, otherwise the whole ruse will fall apart. When we all know this had nothing to do with who won spots. It was all a business decision, on who was waiver exempt plain and simple.

It's a total shame. At least they should be honest with their players, if not with the fan base. And something tells me they weren't honest with Kravtsov.

Shoulda sent him for Blais and a 4th, lol. He had us fooled that he “grew up”

The replacement would have been Kravtsov. Kravtsov went and spaffed that up the wall.

He wasn't going to be in the lineup right away. Although I would have penciled him in, personally, I don't think that's particularly egregious.

Would he have been happy as a healthy scratch as opposed to in the minors? I don't think so just based on how catty he's been about this and other issues.

I know getting paid much more to be in a not so ideal spot is much better than being paid less in a shitty spot. You can work your way back into a good spot either way, but is it easier to do that in the AHL playing game or is it better to show it in practice around the coach?

Could be differing opinions on the matter, but having the coaches eye on you directly while the guy that took your spot is someone that also struggles with being consistent makes it a lot easier to just be plugged into the lineup on any given night. It's much harder to be sent down and called up very quickly. Unless we're talking about him with 9 points in 3 games in the AHL, you're down there for a month most likely.

Chytil did it. Lindgren did it. Jones is doing it now. Barron is doing it now too. So, he should have just eaten the turd and went down and dominated. Clearly he wants to be in a different spot and is forcing his way out.

Wow, yeah, I didn't even see this!

Y'all gotta give Lafreniere a minute.

After two years, I'm really starting to see it with Kakko and I'm really excited. It'll happen for Laf too.

Because of factors beyond our control, this just hasn't been the best environment for quick development. And that's because we're not really a lottery team. We jumped five spots to get Kakko and like 13 spots to get Lafreniere or something. We had talent ahead of them and we're trying to win games. We're not just leaning on them 20 minutes a night of the gate like Ottawa can do with Stutzle or Jersey can do with Hughes.

That slowed them down but it's gonna happen.

Even if the NHL GM gossip circle said this was likely and Kravtsov was on the market for a while, I'm not sure how many takers there would have been for a good price. The guy thought he deserved an NHL top six spot no matter what, and after the Buchnevich trade how many teams had an easier camp battle than us?
