You must think everyone is like Jagr who hits the gym after games. There is only one Jaromir Jagr. Rod Brindamor was another gym rat. Rod played for 20 years. And Jagr is still playing.

Yeah, its almost as if being forward thinking about health and fitness will help you be a better player for a longer period of time. Crazy.

Duhatschek touches on the situation in his latest mailbag:

Are the Sabres for real? Who could be the next Canadiens GM? Duhatschek mailbag

I don't want to post the whole quote, but it boils down to he feels it's less a Rangers problem and more a symptom of a larger issue in the league when it comes to prospects and communication.

Also calls out Tampa and Detroit as potential landing spots, and said the Rangers hold all the cards.

Teams like Detroit, Anaheim, San Jose make a lot of sense. Some teams are rebuilding and in a position to roll the dice on a young talent, if they hit paydirt it will greatly benefit their progress. Other teams desperately need fresh blood injected into their aging squads. The issue now is if they are prepared to meet Drury's price for this roll of the dice.

The return will be similar to Anderson, this is the type of incident(s) that make teams hit the cap crunch earlier than they should be. We need those two 1st rounders now to offset impending and current contracts. Barron and Pajuniemi are basically all we got that are somewhat nhl ready to take important roles right now. Another 2nd rounder doesnt help us now.

Sure, but other teams are in a similar situation. Everyone needs young, cheap talent plus Kravtsov's ceiling is higher than Andersson's. There is definitely untapped potential with Kravtsov, issues aside, so you can't draw a straight line between the situations. Personally I think it's likely Kravtsov is moved as part of a multiplayer deal once the Rangers and other teams have a clearer picture of how their squads look going forward. Trading Kravtsov for a something like a 2nd round pick straight up makes no sense for Drury.

probably yet the issue imo is Krav’s value can’t increase.

That depends on the need/desperation of the buyer, which definitely can increase.

who is desperate for an unproven player? Whatever is written on paper hasn’t been demonstrated on the ice anywhere. Add in the headcase?

All teams are desperate to improve. Teams are even playing Evander Kane and DeAngelo. At some point some team will roll the dice on Kravtsov, that is certain.

I mean to be honest Kane would be a top 6 forward and Deangelo AT WORST would be a bottom pairing guy on this rangers team. Both players would improve the team on the ice talent wise.

now this...this is an incredibly well researched and articulate response. Who can argue with this incoherent mess?

again, desperate for an unproven player? Others will likely show interest but not desperate. The Kane's and TDAs are both proven players while Kane has a heavy price tag and TDA has a light one. Krav is an unproven headache and although teans may show interest i don't see any team desperate for him

I agree. But at the same time, nothing could matter less, for us, this team and so forth, right?

Are their ways to avoid situations like this? Honestly, we don’t know the specifics and no rule is without exceptions. But there are certainly ways to minimize them. We also know that we have been managed by people that regularly have made very poor decisions.

I don't disagree. In no way am I making excuses for the top brass. The amount of horrible trades, players I've seen let walk, etc over my course of being a Rangers fan (since around 1984) is astounding. However in this instance, as bummed as I am to loose a talent like him (I really did think I saw some glimpses of something special with him last year), that shitty attitude outweighs his skill. This is total conjecture, but I can almost guarantee he's the kind of player who refuses to play a roll asked of him, would ignore systems in favor of doing his thing, etc, and honestly, my gut tells me we have enough of that on this team already.

Hopefully we get a decent return for the kid.

agree with this. Based on our current roster set up, I think we should get a proven commodity for Krav (no one is giving a 1st rounder for him....not in the next two drafts).

Calgary would seem to be a good partner to deal with...they are (or are about to be) a rebuilding situation. They have an awful defense, and the need for a good young prospect like Krav. Maybe something around Krav & Nils for Lindholm. That would really impact our forward lineup and check a lot of boxes we need.

I would love to see Krav have to deal with Sutter.

Ship him to the Sharks for Evander Kane at 50%. 3.5M cap hit for a big fast physical wing who can score.

Evander Kane is the worst personality a young NYR squad could add to the room.
Manhattan is the worst thing an addict like Evander Kane needs.

What about Seattle as a Kravtsov destination. There are openings galore on that team. They've also got pieces that are more defined in their role that could help the Rangers in the shorter term.

I wonder if Jarnkrok would be a player that they would move out. He was out with COVID, still is for now, but he's a versatile forward that could fill a bottom 6 role on the Rangers and could move up if needed. Seattle gets a young player that can grow with the team and have the chance to become a top 6 winger for them, the Rangers get a depth forward that can slide onto the 3rd line, kill penalties, and could move up the lineup. He is a free agent at the end of the season, but Kravtsov doesn't have the value he once would have had.

If Jarnkrok works out, maybe he's extend at a similar rate to what he has right now.

I didn't say they are desperate for Kravtsov. I said teams will be desperate for upgrades/fixes and that Kravtsov will fit into that picture. I specifically said Kravtsov will not be dealt straight up.

Just to clarify for you.

id like to add that we will not be throwing nils into a deal...people are so willing to throw him in a trade, i think youd see robertson, skinner, jones, or even reunanen before nils is dealt

Drury really does hold most of the cards here. The only card Kravstov holds is withholding his services. A card that he already has played (multiple times now).

Drury can toll his contract and make it so that he can't play in a relevant league until he finishes out his deal.

The current situation benefits no one, but Kravstov has much, much more to lose on a personal level than anyone in the Rangers Org.

For the life of me, I can't understand why this kid won't listen to reason. Play out your contract this season, and then you can play hardball or demand a trade while negotiating your next deal. The KHL becomes a credible threat. You have leverage at that point. He's painted himself into a corner by having what amounts to a tantrum.

And, for the record, I'm not saying the organization handled the situation well. We frankly don't know enough to make a judgement on that. But what Kravstov is doing is moronic, both personally and professionally.
