Nobody else is wondering how and why he missed the team bus when they’re we’re in the f***ing bubble?
My guess is that due to his general discomfort with the team and feeling scape-goated he probably was trying to spend as little time requiring small talk around coaches and teamates and would usually show up just a teensy bit late but never missed the bus, until he either pushed it too much or they left right on time.

Is it me, or have we had an inordinate amount of these sorts of personal controversies the past few years?
I think we can start this with:
1. Lias
2. Fast leaves for nothing
3. Hank's benching/departure (kinda sorta)
4. Krav part 1
5. Tony Deez
6. Wilson massacre
7. Krav part 2

Bonus: The Buch bounce
Stay tuned for next time!

*EDIT* - for posterity

5a - Panarin hit job
5b - Trautwig fired

Drury should hire someone with a plane in Russia to fly a sign over Kravstov’s house. “We are not trading you”. Come back or stay in Russia forever. Maybe you should pursue a new career. Drury needs to send a message. You know Lou would banish him for good. When the player did return, Lou won’t bring him to the big camp. Report to the AHL camp. He can’t worried about the other players because they don’t care about Vitaly. They really don’t.

Really sounds like Drury is a d-bag to be quite honest. Doesn't shock me either with some of the interviews he's had as a player here.

These are kids. You need to assert yourself properly and know what buttons to push for each kid. Macho man Drury.

Exactly this.

Expecting more out of a 21 year old is reasonable in some circumstances, but not all.

I think he should be less of an asshole to our top 10 picks. Maybe we wouldn't be in this position if he had some better people skills.

Pretty sure Drury's character has been praised everywhere he's been, unless I've missed something, and Kravstov wouldn't be the first 21 year old with arrogance problems.

I think Drury hasn't been great, and I liked Kravtsov more than many of us did, but it sounds like it wasn't going to work out here and the lion's share of that blame goes to Kravtsov.

Cant believe we dropped Gorton for Drury. The funniest part is Drury of all people, after his shitty time in NY telling someone to work harder is just hilarious. Drury is truly the gift that keeps on giving lol.

Drury never had work ethic issues in NY. He wasn't as good here as he was in Buffalo, that's for sure, and never lived up to the contract he got. In retrospect, some of that was a part of the times and the lack of understanding about when player declines would really start. Work ethic and sacrifice were never questions in Drury's time here though.

Is it me, or have we had an inordinate amount of these sorts of personal controversies the past few years?

Definitely not just you. By my count, it's at 4 and 3 of them were self-inflicted. Gorton gambled on DeAngelo and got burned. We've got the two prospects. And the Panarin situation, which is the one that wasn't self-inflicted.

So you have to wonder... did Gorton not care about potential personality issues, the front office felt there was enough talent there to hope they'd fade away when these guys matured, or did everyone involve miss those personality traits with Andersson and Kravtsov? On the last, it can be pretty difficult to project how a 17 year old is going to act even 4 years later. That's the biggest thing that separates basketball and football from baseball and hockey in terms of the draft. In basketball and football, guys don't get drafted until you know what kind of player they're going to be, at least, as well as a better idea of what kind of people they are as adults. Hockey and baseball are much more of a projection game.

I can't say we can know the answer to this... or at the very least we can speculate that it's a combination of all of those things: Gorton didn't care as much as other GMs might have, the front office liked the player enough to override some personality concerns, and everyone involved didn't understand how strongly held those personality traits were.

One way or the other, all three are failures of management. Failures of management don't excuse any of those player's actions, though. Both can be true at the same time.

This is the same Christopher Drury that many other teams were lusting after and hoping he'd take their GM job and Rangers' FO had to fend them off with a broomstick.

Easy to do after the fact but reviewing the 2018 draft is rather depressing. Consider the fact all of these went after VK:

Joel Farabee
Ty Smith
Noah Dobson
Oliver Whalstrom

(k’andre and nils)

whoooooops.

LOL at GG reaching out, and at AGM Drury dressing down Krav. GMs coaching. Coaches GMing. Our 'BUILD' is dead in the water with this clown in charge. He was a lazy hump as a NYR.

In a league where Benning and Ruff and Jack Johnson and Seth Jones stay employed. What's your point?
