RBA should've had a rule that says if one goalie is ded, the other one isn't allowed to die. Now the other one ded too.

Well, he might practice before the weekend since that's when it's speculated he might play. You also missed the fine print of the rule.

Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but if I were the coach and believed that Kochetkov couldn't go in either game, I would start Perets at home. Sooo, maybe that means we'll see Kochetkov tomorrow in Sunrise...? A fella can hope.

Imo, no to Kooch tomorrow regardless. If it's not crystal clear that he's ready at this point, don't f*** around and risk really screwing up the rest of the season.
If Kochetkov hasn’t practiced yet, DO NOT put him on a ******* plane. Last thing they need is a plane flight to send him backwards in recovery before he even gets to play.
After this it’s a week before the trip to Long Island; that should be enough time to get Kochetkov into practice and hopefully a game if he continues to progress.

They decided to keep andersen around and this is the result. Not sure what to say. Its like having 8 beers then driving. It was your stupid decision.
It's become an "every year problem" with this tandem and this approach to goaltending. It feels past time to take this goaltending strategy out behind the woodshed like Old Yeller and try a different approach.
This one clearly isn't viable if we're facing a yearly stretch of playing #3/#4 on the depth chart.
It was even a problem before this tandem. Nedeljkovic was the #3 and only started playing because of an injury to Mrazek. They didn't have to play #4 in 20-21 but they played Ned a lot in part out of need, in part out of performance.
The issue is that Kochetkov was supposed to fix this run of injured goalies in theory. But if he can't avoid getting hurt on overly aggressive plays he can't fix that problem.

See i don't disagree with you guys in the health status of our two net minders. I do disagree once you take that thought out of a vacuum, whether or not you thought these guys could combined to play 82 games, who were you going to replace them with?

If only in terms of pure thought experiment, let's go back to the 2021 off-season. The Cup finals have just ended, with MVP going to Vasilevsky, though it also required an MVP performance from Carey Price for the Canadiens to even make it to the Finals. All this to say, if ever there was a time to emphasize the importance of a good goaltender, that off-season was the time
The Canes found themselves in an interesting position. They let both their previous goalies leave for FA (Mrazek and Reimer) and had an abundance of cap space after replacing the very expensive Hamilton with the very cheap DeAngelo. They had, in every sense, the pick of the litter in terms of goalies.
But who was available at that time? Well, in terms of FA, we have:
Andersen
Raanta
Alex Lyon
Brian Elliott
Jarsolov Halak
Brayden Holtby
Martin Jones
Laurent Brossoit
Jonathan Bernier
Carter Hutton
Phillip Grubauer
Linus Ullmark
Craig Anderson
Aaron Dell
Charlie Lindgren
The Canes signed the first three, obviously.
In terms of trade, the options were much more interesting, IMO

Vitek Vanecek
Darcy Kuemper
Spencer Martin
Now, hindsight is obviously 20/20, but IMO, there are few goalies on that list that we could have reasonably expected to outperform the games we got from Andersen and Raanta. Outside of MAF, I'd say there's no one we could guarantee one way or the other. Obviously, someone like Lindgren would have been a great steal, given how he's developed, but there's no way to predict such a thing.
The real issue is that the organization saw how important goaltending is to winning it all in the previous Cup Finals, and opted to sign two goalies that had a history of being injured. One would have been fine, but choosing two often left them in very precarious situations, as we've seen lately.

I mean we literally go for distressed assets in net, and the easiest way to be a distressed assets as a goalie is to be unable to stay healthy.
Our goalies can't stay healthy because we keep targeting guys with injury histories. It's why we can afford them.

According to those who are much smarter than me at these sorts of things, the 2 analytical darling goaltenders that have been available within the last year or 2 are Charlie Lindgren and Kevin Lankinen. I'm shocked we didn't make a play for at least one of those guys.

I can’t imagine they move him but lankinen has been playing really well and is at the end of a cheap contract

I was hoping there was some way for us to get Saros but if it was even a possibility the price would have been exorbitant.
edit: I'd wager the Borg is working options as we bitch and moan, and will make a move if something makes sense. I'm glad they aren't reactionary. A knee jerk move that hurts the team longer term without providing significant immediate term benefits isn't in our best interest. If teams are trying to squeeze the Canes thinking they have to do something, treading water for the moment might well temper that attitude. Or better options might open present themselves as we get later in the season. It's a luxury that we can afford to tread water at this point.

I think you ultimately have a lot of banged up goalies across the league yearly. It's a tough position to play these days. Seems to be a lot like being a catcher with all the up and down and wear and tear on the body and the inherent breaking down with that.
