TSN Overdrive says that Klingberg is dealing with a "hip related issue of some sort".

He is going to be given a one-way ticket to Robidas Island, isn't he?

It sucks that teams can just bury bad contracts like this, since I doubt he is actually injured but rather he sucks so much that Toronto simply doesn't want to play him anymore.

You shouldn’t be able to cut injured players, but teams should be able to cut anyone else they choose

Absolute bollocks. The same program, Mike Johnson was on the Leafs flight as a media member and said something like "idk how much I was supposed to see but he is legitimately injured". He didn't play a game in Sweden when the Leafs go out of their way to give players those chances.

Pretty shameful assertion

Well, if you doubt it, it can’t be true!

Doctors from all sides get to examine injured players correct? If he's not injured he wouldn't be allowed to go on LTIR.

The problem we all know is the hard cap. If the league would put in reasonable flexibility, we could avoid all discussion about "Robidas Island". Too many welfare cases in this league insisting on 100% cost certainty. Should be able to send a guy down and take his cap hit off the books while he's either a healthy scratch or in the AHL. But no owners want the hard cap - well then you get behaviour that puts the game's integrity in doubt. Hard cap is garbage, that only helps owners and the welfare bums of the NHL

I mean it's a one year contract, not some albatross they're trying to get out of by concocting a fake injury. More likely he actually has a serious hip issue that prevents him from being an effective NHL player and he needs to decide if he wants to go under the knife and attempt a comeback or retire to Europe.

Definitely fumbled the bag by not signing long-term with Dallas when he had the chance, injuries can be cruel in sports.

It's only a 1-year contract. It would be impossible to put him on Robidas Island otherwise since he would then probably want to continue his career in Europe and that would show what Leafs are doing. Now they can just put him on LTIR for the season and not having to deal with it after that.

Everyone knows now that the Leafs put injured players on LTIR if they will be injured for the long term. Some people spread nonsense that teams- or maybe just one team, put players on injured reserve when they are not injured. Last time some posters made that claim about Matt Murray then he has surgery.

Week to week with hurt the Toronto media hurt my feelings
Interesting how this seems to keep happening to underperforming Leafs players. Although I could see it coming back to bite them in the ass if he comes back before the TDL, eats up some of their little cap space before reinjuring himself and can't be traded.

This would explain his inability to a defend this year

What about his inability to defend every other year?
Seems the Leafs just LTIR their trash players….

It's either that or threaten to move them to Ottawa.

the PA isn't going to sit idly by as a team forces a player to go on LTIR if they able to play
Klingberg is a UFA at the end of this season and will be 30. He's not getting a new deal anywhere if he misses the final 65 games this season. So, if he's on LTIR for the whole season, it pretty much ends his career.

Sens fans still salty they retained on Murray ? You guys claimed he was perfectly healthy and it was a LTIR scam, meanwhile the dude had surgery.

Maybe he's the worst defenceman since Brett Lebda, or maybe he's injured. But an injury would explain A LOT. Apparently he was almost in tears in Sweden talking about potentially never being able to play hockey again.

I'm sure we'll find out the extent of his injury soon enough and just like it did with Murray, people will look foolish again.

Leafs LTIR injured guys and actually keep them on LTIR. Some teams keep healthy players on LTIR to circumvent the cap and then activate those guys for the playoffs. Not a single guys the Leafs have put on LTIR (Robidas island in specific) ever played again.

This is hilarious at this point.

Player sucks
Send him away
If you actually believe this, the Leafs would have been trading for cap dumps + picks.
