Especially to you Edmonton Oiler fans!!!! The KLIM REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPER!!!!!!!!

Now that Connor Mcjesus is injured why not bring beloved player Kostin back. He has gone on about loving Edmonton, the beautiful guy also wore an Oiler jersey to a playoff game against the Kings (while still being a member of the Sharks!! I don't mind).

Dude could have stayed in a good situation in Edmonton and continue improving. But he made his choice and retreads rarely have the same magic.

Many Oil fans would want him back but you'd need to retain 50% and the return is mid round pick at best.
We can't retain, I'd accept a bag of cricket balls and a half-scratched lottery ticket.

His problem is the cap hit

this player is undisciplined and slow witted. he is the kind of player you can have the entire san jose roster and say no get THIS guy out of here, he is that much of a failed player

If the Sharks are nearing the point where they'll accept future considerations with him, I wouldn't mind trying to find a team with cap space that's willing eat 1mil for a 5th or 6th (Blue Jackets/ Ducks, ect) and make it into a 3 way trade.

Kostin has his warts, but without Kane the Oil are dying for any size and physicality up front.

There might not be a player who’s value to a singular fanbase so outstrips his career value than Kostin is to the Oilers. Literally every other fanbase that has “owned” this guy - Blues, Wings, Sharks - can’t wait to get him as far from the line-up as possible but for a couple of magical months in his now 8 year professional North American career he wasn’t a completely infuriating drag.

Oilers fans were disproportionality irate when he wasn’t brought back when the reality is he was always going to turn back into a pumpkin and they are better off without him. There is no need to go back to that well if you are Edmonton.

He had a defined role here and brought an element the team lacked. I think he made a terrible career choice leaving honestly even though he got paid.

He's the sort of player that will always pique the interest of contenders. If he's a cheap "depth pickup" who is big and can skate and has that one brief spurt where he showed he can score a little bit.

But the problem is...he's not very cheap right now. And San Jose don't have a slot to retain salary to make him cheap. So...idk. Most teams don't want a wildly streaky, inconsistent player at that salary. Heck, on the whole...i'd say it's more likely his little streak with the Oilers was very possibly the career high point.

Fortunately, his contract isn't super long, so he'll have an opportunity to sign a minimum salary deal somewhere soon enough, and try to rebuild his value from there again. Hitting "waiver wire filler" status a couple times within a couple years isn't great though.

Would you guys trade him to another team and give them a 5th rounder to retain $1 million and then we give you a 4th rounder or something?

You're giving them the 5th rounder to get him off your books and team!
For this sort of trade to work, you guys will have to send something to that 3rd team to retain Kostin in a trade to you. Basically, you send us a 4th round pick for future considerations. We trade Kostin and a 5th to the 3rd team for future considerations. That 3rd team that trades you Kostin with 50% retention. That part of the deal will require you to send something their way with retention involved, I think.

Ok then we'll send them a 6th or 7th or something.

Can't retain. Our slots are all used up.

Even if we could we could just dump him on waivers and not have to retain at all.

That could be. I didn't know you had no retention spots left. I personally wouldn't want him back @2m for free. We don't have the cap space for this.

I don't mind the idea of a 3rd team to retain and a late pick thrown their way. Kostin @1m I'd see Edmonton's interest especially until Kane is back.

I like the idea of my Jackets using their cap space to pick up a pick or two. But retaining $1m in cap this early in the year is an actual $1m in real money. I can't see them doing it for a 5th and 6th.

I don't think we were. Or, not most of us at least. Most of us knew he was leaving to be overpaid and that he never would have been worth the contract Detroit paid for him. As others have said though, he had a defined role here, so I understand why this keeps popping up.

Kostin is closed to being waived than having value. Sharks just don’t want his attitude around their young guys in the AHL. Send him to someone else’s AHL team.
