Catching up on some of the action form the weekend. We got to sell, this Knight team feels inevitable.
Time to sell our best players to the next most likely team to stop them so they can't win again (am I being petty? Yes, of course, but the only thing I like more than seeing the Rangers win, is seeing the Knights lose).

Brampton and Ivankovic are currently struggling, does Parsons and Andonovski for Ivankovic and picks make any sense?
I would consider that deal, depending on the picks.

However, as good as Ivankovic is, and projects to be, there is always an element of risk involved, in putting all your eggs in one basket on a goaltender.

If this were a 17 year-old forward or defenceman coming back in the deal, and that player turns into Nick Lardis, that’s great, but if he does not, and turns into only an okay or just a bit better than ok skater, he still plays in your lineup and helps if he’s a middle six forward or a fourth or fifth defenseman.

But if you go all in where the goaltender coming back is the essential part of the deal, and he winds up being just OK, can you even start him if you’re contending?

Bilecki is doing just fine as a 16 year old dman in this league….huge upside imo. Plus he has already burned an A card.

If Valetini comes it’s between Schaubel and Headrick on who gets the last A card. Valetini 100% gets one.
Does Valentini still count towards that limit since he was acquired via trade? I know teams can have more than the 4 if they've been trades (Peterborough last year as an example) but I don't know if it'd be different since he was acquired before the season started.

Ivankovic is untouchable.

They traded the 18 year old Leenders because of how confident they are in that young man’s abilities.

Brampton will figure it out at some point.
I doubt very much they’d move on from both Leenders and Ivankovic in one year.

Any Brampton deal for another goalie will just be insurance should Ivankovic falter.

If I’m Parsons, I know that and would not be happy being dealt there.

Parsons would only want to be traded to a team where he would play 90% of the teams remaining games. That is also if he wants to be traded, or if there is a team where that would be the case.

I don't think about them at all.

I would do Parsons and Ando for Ivankovic in a heartbeat, personally. I think it's a pipe dream.

Exactly.

If both Leenders and Ivankovic - probably the best goaltending tandem in the league at the start of the season - were both traded in one year, Mr. Richmond's competency would be called into question IMO......but I suppose there is that >0% chance.

Projecting the skill level of a goalie is extremely difficult. The odd goaltender is solid from the get go but it's extremely rare. Some of the best goalies we have seen over the years in the OHL never got a cup of coffee in the NHL. I would be surprised if MM trades vets until the deadline unless he gets an offer he can't refuse.

You have to get a 2nd back for Parsons if dealing him. He for sure isn’t worth moving for like a 3rd and 5th. I’d look for a team trying to improve their OA goalie and include that OA goalie in the trade. This will give Schaubel more starts, we have an experienced goalie for the rest of the year and we get some picks back in return.
No disrespect to Schaubel and whoever would replace Parsons if we traded him but we better get a whole lot more than a second if we trade him. We've seen how substandard goaltending can affect a team's play and development in past seasons. None of this comes close to working this season without the goaltending Parsons has given us this season. Getting a 2nd or even two 2nds would seem like nothing in the grand scheme of things compared to the development of this team right now.

2nd is the starting point. I was replying to someone who said he wouldn’t trade him for a couple of mid round picks. I think if you can get 2x 2nds plus a vet average goalie who can keep the team in games it’s worth considering. We still have a cupboard that needs to be filled…Rehkopf should just be the starting point.

I think you substantially underestimate Ivankovic's value. Doesn't matter anyway.
Would you rather take the boat or the muster box? The muster box could have a boat but it could also be an empty box. I'm not saying Ivankovic isn't a potential star but if you are trading away the top goalie in the league currently and a top shutdown D you should get picks back as well as a 17 year old goalie no matter how good he can be.
