I know nothing is certain in baseball but if the Dodgers don't win the WS this year it will be somewhat embarrassing.

5 Aces, stacked bullpen, 3 MVPs hitting in the lineup

the dodgers not coming close to breaking the 01 mariners single seasons wins record would be a disappointment

the WS should already be a given barring a ton of injuries

Baseballs funny in that the Dodgers may very well get swept in the NLDS despite being the reigning champs and having oodles of talent.

The “all of this for an NLDS exit” talks don’t make sense right now for the defending champs but that was usually the narrative from the hay-ters. So “DoDgErS aRe rUiNiNg bAsEbaLl/BaSeBaLl nEeDs a SaLaRy CaP” would do for now

It's crazy to get mad at a team for spending money and trying to win. Literally any team could have signed a bunch of the players that the Dodgers have signed this year, last year, and years leading up. They chose not to.

Sure, Ohtani, Yamamoto, Saski chose other teams and wanted to go to LA. Big f***ing deal. That happens. Someone else could have signed Scott, Yates, Teo, Conforto, Snell, etc.

There's like 5-6 teams that haven't signed a single player this off-season and you have guys like Bregman, Alonso, Flaherty, Scherzer are still on the board. Those dudes will make your team better. Go sign them. Go trade the Marlins some junk and get a bunch of good players that they don't want to pay soon.

This is why I dont get all the moaning. Snell for example was a free agent for months on end last year, nobody wanted him. For years the Dodgers despite being in a city many want to live in didn't sign anybody notable. Eventually they got new ownership who went out and hired one of the absolute best GMs in the sport (Friedman) and turned their team around. People forget that they also have na amazing scouting and development team which also attracts players.

Bob Nutting does not care for his team to be a contender, the Pirates are an ATM/asset for him. Likewise with the Marlins, Miami is like LA - a place people want to live but ownership prefers to spin their tires and not make any efforts to get better.

Interesting note at the end of the article:

Los Angeles' luxury-tax payroll this year is around $390 million, and with the penalties for exceeding the $241 million threshold, their total payroll is likely to be in excess of $500 million. Owners of other teams have been outspoken about Los Angeles' spending, with the New York Yankees' Hal Steinbrenner on Tuesday telling YES Network that "it's difficult for most of us owners to be able to do the kinds of things they're doing."

According to Forbes the Yankees are worth $7.55 billion dollars.

2024 Financial Summary
Revenue / $679M
Operating Income / $2.1M
Debt/Value / 1%
Player Expenses / $291M
Gate Receipts / $284M

Dodgers are next on the list at $5.45 billion valuation.

2024 Financial Summary
Revenue / $549M
Operating Income / $26M
Debt/Value / 11%
Player Expenses / $228M
Gate Receipts / $211M

As the kids say, the math is not mathing

It's just all the owners who are mad because the Dodgers make them look like cheap assholes*

*Most are.

I don't think Robert Nutting gives one solitary shit about being made to look like a cheap asshole as long as he gets to keep making the GDP of a small Caribbean country for doing absolutely nothing.

If billionaires were capable of feeling shame they wouldn't be billionaires.
