Is longer the main criteria? I would aim for leadership while they are here. So Crosby would be my choice, but he's unlikely to be traded to MTL.
Off course not but i think it's a important part of the question if it's worth it. And of course i would want Crosby before Malkin and i would go as far as saying i wouldn't trade Dach for Malkin, as opposed to Crosby.

I think Crosby will have more roadway.

I mean, I'd love to get Crosby. I just don't think Pittsburgh would ever let him leave and he'd be super expensive. I think Malkin would be a lot cheaper and easier to get.

But... do we even want to go that route? I don't know that we do. It'd be a nice little bridge to help us through but we might be just better off drafting high another year.
I would definitely go the Crosby route. Perfect mentor for our team. Could easily play at Suzuki's level for the next 2 years. And i think he would be the perfect center to play with Demidov and even Laine.

Crosby is too good to pass up. But what would he cost?

We would all love to have Crosby but he has like 2 years left in him, 3 top, and he's gonna cost at the very minimum 2 first picks +++++++

forget about it immediately

Won’t get in the debate much. Just came here to say that he’s playing scared. Scared to get hurt. He avoids much of the contacts and avoids the danger zones. Got tagged a couple of times and he backed off right after.

He needs to stop playing scared and go back at playing careless, like he was prior to injury.

In his case, ça crève l’écran: the issue is between the ears right now.

Don't really agree with this... Maybe the first few games, but I don't see that through most of his season.

While the stats on hits are always a bit dubious, relative to his teammates he's 4th in hits (& 4th among fwds in hits/60). He's noticeably initiating contact on the forecheck as much as any of our players imo

Do agree that the low production impact is a mental issue... Though here too he seems to be a little more assertive with taking the puck to the middle in the ozone more frequently of late. Next step is shooting with a little more focus and less rushed.

my guess is that Dach was super tentative coming back from injury. He probably didn’t want to get hurt again, so toned down his aggressivity.

Pre-season being what it is, and his success this pre-season probably gave him a false sense of confidence of being able to produce while playing a safer game.

As a result, he got into a habit of playing passive and tentative. But nhl comp is different than pre-season and Dach is playing catch up after developing bad habits.

He’s successful when he’s playing dangerously. That will open him up to injury which he’s probably looking to avoid and this is where we are at.
Great take. Like give the guy some benefit of the doubt ffs lol.

Hughes didn't either...talking about being in the mix....when you tank and have that in mind, nobody talks about mix...

He wasn't expecting to be fighting for the playoffs either.. which is why any talk of Dach for Malkin misses the point of what both franchises are trying to accomplish right now.

Dach isn't going anywhere. Habs management's expected for Dach to be back "in shape" around mid-season and we are only halfway there.
