I was one of the posters who went there and had a very cordial exchange with them. They basically confirmed what I was seeing from him, and I talked about that here, but others quickly shot it down.
You can't play a one-way game and be an effective NHL center unless you're Connor McDavid scoring 100 plus points a year. He doesn't need to focus on defense because on most shifts he has the puck.
Dach has okay offensive instincts, but on his own side of center ice he is completely lost and his FO% is at 40. It doesn't help him to be playing with two guys who have little to no defensive instincts either. If the Hawks mismanaged Dach, we aren't really doing him any favours either.
Center and top pairing D are the toughest positions in hockey and not every player can pull it off. I compared his time at center to the Drouin experiment, and what I meant was that neither one is a center, but being played in the role and being exposed for the lack of execution.
Kirby Dach's injuries are not the reason he isn't a good center. The issue lies with his defensive zone awareness and hockey IQ. He is fine on the attack and around the opposition's net but lost on the defensive side of things.
