Wold love it if one of the kings pulled a Thomas.

Why?

It's a cool day for the entire organization, from the players to the fans. Why can't we just enjoy it and not pull in politics to the mix? It doesn't matter whose sitting in the White House, they've done this tradition for decades. Enjoy it. It's going to the White House, not Barrack's house (even if the two are technically the same right now).

I'm certainly no fan of President Obama, but I thought it was dumb what Thomas did, just like it was dumb when Theo Epstein wouldn't meet President Bush when the Sox won the WS.

Have respect for the office even if you hate who's in it. Meeting the President should be a huge honor regardless of your political views.

Yep. I doubt any of our guys would do that, but you never really know until they get there. If the President wishes to meet you and have a ceremony in your honor, you go no matter what you think of him.

Why? Is he a god or something?

If a player doesn't want to meet the president then he shouldn't. I see no issue with it.

It was very arguably a distraction to the Bruins last season. That's the main reason. A player should not be putting himself before the team, period.

I remember when Rasheed Wallace threw a fit about meeting President Bush. Was wrong when he did that and it would be wrong now. He eventually went though.

I think if you don't want to go, just find a way out. Have the team issue a statement that Player X is away "attending to unforeseen family issues" or Player X "has comedown with a severe flu"

It can be pure BS, and the player can even keep it between himself and the GM and no one else has to know.

Tim Thomas turned the whole situation into a scene about himself.

T Thomas was a huge jagoff for what he did, it heavily lead to BOS dumping him. his nonsense detracted from the team's accomplishment. it also reflected bad on the BOS organization.

it is a celebration of the team's accomplishment, not an individual's accomplishment.

you don't have to like the president, but you respect the office and the position

If Romney won the election and one Kings player decided to boycott it, would the anti-Obama Kings fans be okay with that?

I would think it's a stupid decision, but I'd be okay with it. It's the player's choice.

It's their choice whether they want to participate. It's just not a smart move from a team cohesion perspective. The less distractions, the better. That's what I'd expect.

It only affects team cohesion if said player pulls a Thomas. If the player does it quietly ala what kingsfan said then it's a non issue.

I mean what is this Nazi Germany? If you don't like the Fuhrer go anyways because you should respect the position of the Fuhrer? A bit dramatic sure but just as ridiculous. If you don't want to go, don't go.
