This is where it opens up for me. Leslie and Ebert are both good choices, but Leslie has a better all-around game and plays with some snarl. Going with him.

Someone needs to explain to me the Leslie and Ebert love while Miller gets ignored? All 3 have similar size, skill, and upside, but Miller is further along the development curve (yeah he is a year older and should be,) and doesn't have any of the question marks that Leslie and Ebert have. Just don't get it.

Voting Miller now that he's on here. Add LaDue.

Personally I think all have question marks. While I didn't for any of them, I'd assume you comes down to what you take as a criteria. I get the sense from your postings that you prefer to throw your support behind more polished or developed players, hence you went with Miller who is fresh off his first AHL season. Others might decide to go with upside, and hence why they would go with Ebert and Leslie. While I would debate if Leslie has more upside than Miller, the fact Ebert was once touted as a 1st round pick is what likely indicates to many that he has more upside.

It really boils down to what you use as a guideline for determining who is better.

Makes sense and I'm a fan of all 3 of them. I had totally spaced the Ebert being a projected first rounder so that sort of explains that. I just see three 2-way d-men that are the same size and have roughly the same projected upside (2nd pairing, solid 3-4 guys) and was curious where the Ebert and Leslie love was coming from. It's not so much as I picked Miller based on readiness, but probably just a case of I like him and what he brings more. I can see all three being NHL players one day, but I just see more question marks with Leslie and Ebert right now than with Miller.

All things considered, Colin Miller had a horrible first year in the AHL. He was a frequent healthy scratch late in the season and both Morris and Blake indicated that his defensive positioning needs a lot of work. He turns 22 in October.

Ebert and Leslie, on the other hand, were able to put up numbers similar to Miller's in the OHL despite being a year younger when they did it. Ebert's defensive game has come around, and Leslie has always been a good two-way player.

While one season isn't enough to write off Miller, he needs to take major steps forward defensively this season if he wants a shot at playing in the NHL.

I don't know about a horrible year, he struggled no doubt,. But a lot of prospects do when adapting to the speed of pro hockey. But thanks for the analysis. It makes sense, I don't disagree or agree 100% with it, but it clarifies why people have those two higher.

You're absolutely right in saying that many prospects struggle when adapting to the pro game. Look at Jordan Weal -- healthy scratch for pretty much the first ten games of the season (2012). Then he rebounded and finished the year strong, and followed that with a spectacular sophomore campaign.

One bad year is not enough to write-off a prospect (Miller).
