Bart should win this by a landslide.

Gravel has worked hard to earn his contract, but Bart is still by far the better prospect. Our most solid goalie prospect, bar none (as sad as that may be)

Bartosak, but I'm glad these two guys are in a runoff because they're both largely unheralded but raw guys with a lot of tools and a low-key but successful history of performance.

went with Gravel, kid is slightly under Forbert. I felt management was a bit hard on him and made him earn his contract/playing time. Kid stood strong and showed what he has to offer.

Gravel? Really? The kid who got an AHL contract only because the Kings said he had holes to work on throughout his game? And no NHL team signed him during that time? He's not that good of a prospect.

Bartosak easily, or should've been Dowd.

The same Gravel who then went to work and has himself a contract with the Kings today.

He did work!

Hockey's Future ranks Kevin Gravel a 7.0 C.

Talent Analysis

Gravel has very good skating for his size, including a good first step. His defensive positioning is exceptional and has become a real staple and defining factor to his game. He should have more points than he does given his puck skills and shot.

Future

Gravel signed a two-year entry-level contract with Los Angeles in June 2015 after spending his first pro season on an AHL contract with Kings' affiliate Manchester in 2014-15. He has impressed numerous people so far in his development and is considered one of the better defensive defensemen in the Kings’ system.

LAKingsInsider

According to hockey operations, the tall, defensive-minded defenseman showed significant improvement in Manchester this season and will compete for a spot on the Kings at training camp (though in almost all certainty will open the season as a minutes eater on AHL-Ontario’s blue line).

I wouldn't say he's a scrub.

Gravel is going to be a good one.

Poor man's Willie Mitchell in the making and not a scrub.

Coach Stother's words should carry more weight that any one here:

“[Gravel] has been great; he’s just improved immensely,†coach Stothers said of his young defenseman. “There’s a lot to like about him when you first look at him. You see his size and his reach, and his skating is underestimated. He’s [also] made some real progress in the way he reads the situations. He’s making great plays. He looks like he’s playing with some poise and confidence. He’s been real ood.â€

I hope HF has changed things in doing their grading of prospects from when I used to write here back in the day. I don't even pay attention to those rankings after seeing how it was done.

Giving rankings to players is a pretty nebulous thing anyway. I hope that Gravel will be a great player and see him as a taller Willie Mitchell with less skill. With that said, if he becomes a solid third-pairing guy, that would be awesome. Especially if McNabb and Forbort have success at the pro level. Doughty and Muzzin aren't going anywhere for a long time.

McNabb and Forbort are 6'5 and Gravel is 6'4. Holy ****, that'd be a big blueline. Lintuniemi is 6'3, 227 pounds and still growing. He's basically a harder-hitting Matt Greene but 20 years old.

Muzzin - Doughty
Forbort - Voynov
Gravel - Lintuniemi

McNabb, Martinez, Leslie, Ebert... Kings have a lot of promising defensemen.

Sorry, that got way off track. I voted Bartosak. Lol.

So what. He's in the same mold as Rullier, McGinnis, Seeley, Petiot. At best he's Aaron Rome.

I disagree but only based on the fact that he has always been a much higher caliber player who has proven himself by both his on the ice play and his natural leadership (take a look at his background) as well. He came to camp and was forced to prove himself. He did and has earned his way back into the good graces of the Kings org. If you see him as a lesser prospect that is fine. I see him as being a more complete player then you are giving him credit for and time will prove who sees what more clearly.

Gravel co-captained with Dowd and played himself into a contract when challenged by management.

I like Bartosak, but I think the intangibles give Gravel the edge.

I picked Bartosak but I don't mean it as a slight towards Gravel. I LOVE his response to being challenged by management especially when he could have easily gone to another team instead. He showed me something there and I hope him and Forbort can be NHLers for us someday (and LaDue).

I would be willing to bet that Gravel will be an NHLer in the next season or two and that eventually LaDue will get his shot too.
