The benefits of playing in a crappy division. Honestly, everyone after Vegas could be pretty interchangeable.

Regular season Oilers is a lock for #2 IMO. Their PP is too good not to be. Come playoffs when powerplays go away they will struggle to get out of the 2nd round though

I'm curious why it's a consensus (not just you, but across the league) that the Oilers are a lock for the second spot? Their defense is miserably awful and they're banking on a 39/40-year-old Mike Smith to repeat a somewhat miraculous season after clearly declining late into his 30s. Their offense is obviously good, but I foresee them having major issues keeping the puck out of the net.

I think their D gets underrated a bit. I think Nurse is set to have a breakout season and I'd guess the Oilers brass do as well after that contract.

Goaltending. Yeah. That's the big question. Smith can be rock solid at times and then fall to pieces - just like the Kings of old.

Is it a good or bad thing if the Kings make the playoffs this season? If hardly any of the youngsters are going to be regulars, I'll say no.

The Oilers will be there near the top because McDavid and Draisaitl are gonna combine for a couple hundred points.

With Kopitar and Danault down the middle, it seems like the Kings should be able to match up well head-to-head with Edmonton, given how suspect their defense and goaltending look.

God this division sucks. Every time I try to predict it, it's just sucks from top to bottom in various shades of poo. Even Vegas will be vulnerable with Tuch out and goaltending.

They're a lock if their retirement home commitment can drink from the fountain of youth. Hyman was a solid add but they still lack enough top six wingers to let them really spread out the offense instead beyond their dynamic duo. Pulujarvi and/or Yamamoto need to step up big time. The D beyond Nurse is suspect and the numbers on Keith aren't flattering for him. And it's entirely possible Smith goes sideways in net. They could end up 2nd for sure, but it's not a lock at all in my books.

I don't see how it's ever a bad thing to make the playoffs. Also, even if some kids don't make the team out of camp, we have a lot of guys on this team who have never played in the playoffs before so they'd still get that experience.

I'm pretty sure the lineup the last 1/3rd of the season will look very different from the start. similar to 2011-2012 when we had the Carter trade and King/Nolan playing (among others). I expect most/all rookies to be sent down, but likely two of them up playing FT by the end. Very good chance we have a Carter like trade during the season -- if we are solidly in the playoff race.

I don't think their D is worse off than last year. Especially with Tippett coaching. Gone is Larson, yes that hurts. But Ceci had a decent campaign last year and I am a big Broberg guy. Bouchard should progress some as well. Keith, for all is warts, is a decent stay at home guy IMO. Similar to Greene to me.
Adding Hyman and Foegele will have a great impart on a forward group that really did not lose anyone. RNH two way game is underated too. I am far from an Oiler fan but living where I do I hear enough about them.

Goaltending is a legit fear, but Freidman says they are not done there.

Cus people are lazy, predictions are insanely easy to produce and nobody ever goes back and holds you accountable when you're wrong.

100 yards away if you're going along with the crowd on a prediction you look like you're competent and part of a consensus.

If I'm ever officially put on the spot I list the Oilers as "obviously" being the second best team in the Pacific.

Privately? and here I guess...

I wouldn't be shocked if they missed the playoffs and their entire season collapses underneath them.

They could really use a Jack Johnson type at wing.

I only see them missing if both Leon and Conner get injured. Honestly their two headed monster is like Jagr and Mario in Pittsburgh. Difference is the oilers don't have a Francis or Barasso.

Nucks are a better team for sure. IF they get Hughes and EP signed.
Not true

They're a worse version of the oilers with better goaltending but and worse d core. They have poor depth too. 1 or 2 injuries and they're even more f***ed

I think LA, Vancouver and Calgary are all interchangeable as far as where i think they will finish this year in the standings. Could understand an argument for any one of them being better than the other two.
