I don't like King on the 2nd line at all...unless he's there for muscle only. I'd much rather have Gagne there, but Sutter can always change the during the game. As long as he keeps Richards with Carter, that'll get some goals going.

Swap King and Gagne and I'd like it. King has done nothing really. Don't know why he would be a good fit with Richards and Carter, but who knows I guess... Just have to wait and see.
 
Ugh, King with Richards and Carter? What is the fascination with this big dopey kid? He hasn't done a thing this season - why is he being rewarded with second line icetime and a guy like Gagne overscrutinized?

There's no reason why Gagne should be on the fourth line. If you want to criticize a player like Gagne for having zero goals, look at your own ridiculous system that demands a finesse guy to grind out goals along the boards. Absurd.
 
Play 2 bad periods.....CHANGE EVERYTHING!! The Darryl Sutter way of coaching. I'm not a fan of constantly changing lines just because your struggling.

If it was working I wouldn't have a problem with it. Problem is... It's not working.

I don't get that either, the only thing I can guess is that Sutter is assuming that Gagne on the 4th line will be better than anything Edmonton has on that line and if Fraser and Nolan/Lewis can get the puck in, Gagne will have a better chance at scoring. But I can't see that happening. Hoping he switches King down there duyring the game and brings Gagne up.
 
Obviously line combinations are not static. Since very little is working at ES for the Kings, if combinations change now, or during a game, what's the difference?

You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but I am also entitled to refresh your memory:

King: 4 goals in WCF, huge body presence and key assist in Finals.

Fraser: Played grit hockey throughout the playoffs, got his first playoff goal in Finals, game 1.

Lewis: Outstanding last game of Finals: key first goal period, drew important late penalty to even up sides in last period.

Richardson: Played outstanding as a sub for Clifford throughout much of the playoffs, key goal in game 5 in Vancouver series.

Gee, I don't know. Maybe because he had an outstanding playoffs last season, culminating in 4 goals in the Phoenix series? Perhaps that speed assist to Lewis during the now-famous 5 minute major? Maybe because he brings speed and size to the wing and he gets around defenders routinely?

This isn't about being "rewarded." This is about trying to find the right fit. Sutter is trying to find line combinations that will work. As we have seen in recent games, he is not hesitant to change things up during the game.

Not sure what you are talking about. Being on a particularly-numbered line doesn't always mean its your "grind line." As I said above, Sutter is trying to find the right line combos. "Absurd," I mean really? I am going to give the defending Stanley Cup champion coach a little more credit than you are giving him.

Not sure what you are talking about. Being on a particularly-numbered line doesn't always mean its your "grind line." As I said above, Sutter is trying to find the right line combos. John Druce had an incredible playoff run once upon a time. He later went on to have a long successful career.

No, wait, he didn't. It was a fluke run.

What about King's play this season has given you any indication whatsoever that he's providing even the same physical presence that he did in last year's playoffs? I'm all for preaching patience with this team this season because I believe in our squad, but let's call a spade a spade. King hasn't been a good hockey player this year.
 
Gagne hasn't scored in what 30 games? He should be sitting if anything. I don't get the love for him. He's a shell of his former self. He was signed to score goals and he's been invisible. Quite sad. (Now watch him score a goal next game, haha. Not that would change much, it would still be hilarious though)

He's close. He is playing much, much better. Not scoring goals is not a concern for me at this point in time. The goals will come. It's just a matter of time.

I hope you're right. I just hardly ever remember seeing him on the ice. There was one play he made at the last home game which was really nice to see. Lot of players on the team need to really step up though before his name comes up.

On a positive note, I'm really happy for Clifford. He's taking advantage of more ice time. I love seeing that in the younger guys. King is going through what Clifford went through last season and a looot of fans wanted to see him traded. Give him time.

Concur wholeheartedly.

I think Sutter is just trying to jump start the kid. He's been pretty ineffective so far at the things that made him successful in the playoffs--using body for position and driving hard (same as Penner, really). Seriously, when was the last time you saw King or Penner in front of the other team's net causing havoc? Our whole team seems allergic to the crease lately.
 
I like King, I just don't think he should be on the second line. He's had some prime chances and good looks and he just never puts the puck in the net. Gagne or Clifford would be my choices.
 
If the #1 center of this team doesn't get going and soon, the line combinations won't matter.

This is a true statement.

Kopitar and Richards are tied for scoring on the team now right? It would t surprise me at all to see Richards overtake him by season's end, with his play consistently getting better and Kopitar's seemingly mired in mediocrity.
 
I think it's gonna be time soon to inject some hungry players like King and Nolan last year.

Play Campbell. Maybe call up Toffoli and whoever best grinder and heart player that Manchester has.

Richardson, Fraser and several others are more than expendable. Maybe even give Nolan some 1st line minutes in Manchester for a couple weeks.

I would also advocate scratching Williams or Stoll to send a message to the veterans.

By the time it happens Kings will already be out of a playoff spot. I'm sorry, but this is not the season to have patience. They have to start producing now, and consistently.

You bring up last year playoffs, however none of that matters this year. They don't get any bonus points for what they did in the playoffs. Having ZERO points through 12 games as Lewis and King does is unacceptable, especially with the amount of ice time these 2 see each game
