I would almost prefer to have Odie on the ice in Manch, teaching the young defensemen...I recall him helping Doughty his first yr and that was great for Drew.

You should see him teach 1st grade! He's awesome! but he needs to stop going for the hip check all the time. 6 year olds are fragile.

very good hire. terrific character guy.
i saw some discussion in another thread last night about this and DL's hiring of former players. may take is this is part of the 'culture' Dean has created, but is now developing further. by having a strong mix of former players included in the front office operations it will provide the organization a great resource from the player's perspective.
i don't think you go 100%, or even 80% all former players. there has to a good mix of non-players that are 'professional' hockey people also. this insures you've got your bases covered.
Having someone like OD though is a resource internally for current and especially young players in the system to learn from. This may not be his main role, but i guarantee he will be around and talking to the players.
