Didn't know where else to post this so I decided to start a thread for those interested in seeing a breakdown of the Kings' performance against every division.

*34 points out of 54 points against the Pacific Division.
*23 points out of 42 points against the Central Division.
*19 points out of 32 points against the Atlantic Division.
*17 points out of 32 points against the Metropolitan Division.

Simply put, this team has not been good enough in tight games this season. The Kings have the 4th worst record in the NHL in one-goal games. The Leafs and Sabres have a better winning percentage than the Kings in one-goal games. Only the Flyers, Devils and Hurricanes have a worst record in one-goal games.

Their inability to close out games is the reason why they are in the situation they are in and are on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention. As a whole, the entire team played well below their expectations, and every single player on the roster went through long stretches of making little to no contribution on the score sheet. Add up all of these factors, and you have yourselves a team that is on the outside looking in.

So many glaring numbers. Two losses against the Stars, one loss against a team doing everything they can to ice an AHL team (Sabres), and OTL to the perpetual garbage team in Toronto, and two losses to the Flyers. Those are the difference between being comfortably in the playoffs and probably not making it.

Heck, give us the win against the Oilers last game and one win against the Sabres and we are in the playoffs.

A lot of ways to look at it. A lot of missed points all over the place. Home losses in regulation to NJ and Philly. The two home losses to Calgary in OT after having leads in the 3rd period in both games. The turnover in Florida that cost them at least 1 point. Regulation losses on the road in Carolina, Buffalo, and Edmonton. SO losses to Toronto and Edmonton.

Calgary could end up single handedly causing them to miss the playoffs because of head to head match ups.

Starting tonight its like we have a two game must win mini playoff series. Win and in with just a little luck anyways). After what this season has been like for us I think that is fair and believe we can do it.

8 OT/SO losses to the Pacific Division. That's the reason the Kings are in their current position.

Perhaps surprisingly, Kings haven't been great in one-goal affairs in last four years:

  • .351 1 Goal-game Winning % in 2014-15 (27th in NHL)
  • .488 1GG W% in 2013-14 (14th)
  • .524 1GG W% in 2012-13 (12th)
  • .370 1GG W% in 2011-12 (27th)

I know the Coyotes are a particular brand of suck this season, but the Kings don't normally do this well against them regardless of circumstances.

When the margin for error is this small you can nitpick any game. I still prefer mine because those are games you NEED to win.
