Habs fan here. With the Canadiens, we allow 29.8 shots/game while you guys allow 25.9 shots/game. I just wanted to know what's your secret with this stat, because it's the best of the league so that's something to build on. Is it because:

-Your Ds wins 1 v 1 battles (overall faster Ds with better stick handling)?
-Your players block shots (better positionning)?
-Your players are overall faster than the opposite team (better puck control)?
-You protect the blue line perhaps (particular system)?
-Do you simply face in your division teams that shoot less often?

Concerning Dwight King, he brings size on the 4th line. He's still trying to find his game and must keep it simple. Obviously getting rid of a smurf like Desharnais and getting King + Martinsen is a big upgrade sizewise.

Possession. The Kings priority is maintaining as much possession as possible. When you have the puck, they're not taking shots. Their real issue is converting that possession into goals.

The Kings have the puck a lot so the other team can't shoot.

Of course, the Kings can't shoot either so it doesn't matter.

Sharks fan here...

Expanding on the discussion, what I find interesting this season is that all three California teams are very defense-oriented than usual, and without any real good offensive stats (or at least what I consider to be better than average).

All three teams are below the 50 percentile for GF/G and PPGs. Where it gets strange is SF/G where the Kings are #5 while the Sharks and Ducks still remain below the 50 percentile mark. I don't believe either the Ducks and Sharks could lift their SF/G without sacraficing some of their GA/G.

In fact, on the games where the Sharks needed to get lift their SF/G and GF/G lately, their defense has suffered.

I am wondering how much is the expansion draft and LV coming into the pacific is tempering what the teams were willing to trade. LV is certainly getting the red carpet treatment in my view. I'm sure that has to have some effect on the GMs of the Ducks, Kings, and Sharks.

I think it's a correct assumption that the LV GM is not just looking at how to build the best team he can this off-season, but also to negatively impact his division rivals if the opportunity presents itself.

Another reason is the Kings WILL NOT sacrifice defense for offense. They will not take risks. They generate goals the hard way, Carter is the only player that can get enough speed in the Kings system to make a difference.
