If you are unfamiliar with how things go:
- I will begin with a list of 10 prospects who may not align perfectly with my exact top-10 list, but ones where I think there's more interest and enthusiasm.
- Your votes will be public, and you get one vote in the poll
- You are encouraged to mention who should go on the list next
- I won't vote on any of them, except if it's needed as a tiebreaker
- As always, discussion is half the fun, so feel free to talk it out.
- Feel free to use any criteria you want. It's your vote after all. Some general factors others have used: NHL readiness, upside, role, likelihood to make the NHL, tradability value, or any combination of the above factors.
- I'll start with 48-hour long polls, I'll eventually reduce it to 24 hours as the discussions and participation/voting decreases
- The criteria I am using for this particular poll is Calder Trophy eligibility. Please note there are plenty of other different criteria which can be used (ie, under 23, < 50 games played, etc). The list of those eligible to add will be at the bottom. Now, this criteria may be very strict and make the team look worse due to younger players who no longer match the criteria... but this is what I always use, and will stick with it due to continuity. These are the requirements for Calder Trophy eligibility:
1. Must be under 26 years old by September 15
2. Cannot have played more than 25 games in a single season OR at least 6 games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league
The following players were removed from last year's list last year due to making these criteria or no longer being part of the system:
Clarke, Brandt - D (Games Played)
Doyle, Braden - D (Not Signed)
Fagemo, Samuel - F (Games Played)
Laferriere, Alex - F (Games Played)
Markkanen, Juho - G (Not Signed)
Meehan, Ben - D (Not Signed)
Moverare, Jacob - D (Games Played)
Nousiainen, Kim - D (Not Signed)
Simontaival, Kasper - F (Not Signed)
Turcotte, Alex - F (Games Played)
Ward, Taylor - F (Age)

Here is the list of prospects eligible to be added (sorted alphabetically by last name).

Booth, Angus - D
Chromiak, Martin - RW
Conmy, Ryan - RW
Helenius, Samuel - C
Hughes, Jack - C
Kirsanov, Kirill - D
Krygier, Cole - D
Lawrence, Kaleb - LW
Madden, Tyler - C
Pinelli, Francesco - C
Reeder, James - RW
Salin, Otto - D
Sparkes, Jack - D
Shafigullin, Bulat - LW
Woolley, Jared - D
Wright, Jared - LW

Edit: OHL site has Greentree as LW, so amgoing with that. Though he splits time on both sides.

I am going Ziemmer due to his upside but stron consideration for the goalies and Thomas. Thomas showed that injuries definitely stalled his development and I’m sure there is still upside there. He’s definitely a NHL player.

Add Conmy.

I'm going Thomas here. He proved last year that there is still upside and room to grow despite the injuries, and he's the most NHL ready on the list.

It is close between him and Ziemmer though so I can see Statto and others I guess voting Ziemmer for the reasons outlined.

Add Kirsanov (did I just not see his name on the first poll?)

Everyone had one vote for who to add. Because there was a five-way tie, I went with Mania.

Went Portillo again. Add Wright.

I also think if you lost waiver eligibility you should be removed from a prospects list (Thomas & Madden). Skaters get 5 years after signing or 160 NHL games played and goalies get 6 years or 80 NHL games played. You are not a prospect at that point.

I almost always vote on upside, so it's close for my next 3-4, but Ziemmer. He just has that extra 'it' (I think Thomas does too) and is just so eagerly goddamn violent to go with his skills that I think there's a surefire at least bottom-six NHLer in there with some offensive upside.

Add Kirsanov.

It also depends on when they signed their contract, and while I could have always just used resources like CapFriendly, tracking age + games played is easier for me. So I took the easier, least arbitrary criteria.

I’m still torn and have not voted… no, I’m sticking to my guns Ziemmer and with Akil at #3. I had Thomas in my top 5-6 last year.

If it helps, I always leave the poll open so someone can change their votes. Just in case there's an argument put forth causing others to change their minds.

You just have to remember to change your vote 😆

I like this Prospect Roster you started KP. Nice easy way of getting an idea on where prospect depth is, and where it's lacking with a single glance.

I can definitely see the high floor there with Ziemmer being at minimum a 4th liner. I think he immediately jumps over Thomas on my list if his scoring touch translates to the AHL.

Hopefully he gets a chance with the Reign because I can easily see him getting nothing but bottom line minutes or being healthy scratched this year with all the AHL "depth" signings Blake made.

LA's best prospects are 3 goaltenders...hopefully one actually turns out to be a decent to good NHLer...of course Liam Greentree is the best of all of them plus Jacob Dvorak is right there too as is Kirill Kirsanov and maybe Koehn Ziemmer...still holding out hope for the other Jack Hughes and for Kenny Connors and Ryan Conmy and James Reeder to be diamonds in the rough Joe Pavelski style...ditto for Jared Woolley...hope Martin Chromiak has a banner season in Ontario and scores 30-35 goals! Like Francesco Pinelli but he needs to get stronger...like Matthew Mania and Otto Salin and Angus Booth,Kaleb Lawrence and Samuel Helenius too...Same goes for Jared Wright(size man) and Aatu Jamsen being the darkhorse

The crazy thing about the goalies is that they are actually all spaced out nicely where they hopefully aren't stepping on each other's toes as they develop.

Portillo we should know this year or next whether he makes it. George is likely 2 years away from hitting the AHL, and Hammer likely 4 years away. It's a nice spot to be in where each can marinate in Ontario and be "the guy" there.

i'D PRObably have them roughly equal if they were the same age...I'm just giving Ziemmer the mystery box effect as a positive while others will likely give Thomas the more developed sure thing effect as a positive and I can see either route.

Thank you! That's exactly why I did it. I also will include their rankings in the roster so it's more than names, but also how the fanbase views them.

I agree about wanting him to get a chance. Given the number of votes at this point I'm comfortable in saying I'm very high on Ziemmer.

I do have some hope he'll get decent minutes in the AHL, as he could very easily get top-six minutes on the Cougars, a very successful team.

But one of my favorite qualities with Ziemmer is, given his style of play, he can fit in any line on a lineup.
