I went the same way on this one. For my money it is a toss up between LaDue Dowd and Derps for this spot. Dowd is NHL ready but as a solid bottom pairing guy once settled, LaDue needs another year, maybe two but should make the show and Derps is just too new to have a solid handle on. I have watched a bunch of tape on him now (some thanks to KP and the rest on the EU sites) and I like him allot but he is young and has a ways to go so he is only up there based on his natural talent at least where I am concerned. If Derps works out then he could be a very good 2ndC for us down the road and I think that he has the tools to do so in time.

I'd say Ladue is at least three years from making the NHL on a full-time basis, maybe four. He'll spend another year in UND and then two in the minors, maybe three. Same as Forbort.
