Following years of rumors and speculation, King of the Hill is officially getting the reboot treatment at Hulu.

The Disney-backed streamer has handed out a straight-to-series order for a revival of the former Fox animated series from 20th Television Animation. Creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels are set to return and exec produce alongside showrunner Saladin Patterson (ABC’s The Wonder Years update) and original voice cast members Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick and Lauren Tom. The reboot, which has been rumored for years, has been in the works since Judge and Daniels reunited with the King of the Hill cast in 2017 at Sketchfest in San Francisco for the 20th anniversary of the beloved comedy.

I'll check it how, gonna be weird without both Tom Petty, and Brittney Murphy however, interested to see how they work around that part.

Confirmed there will be a time jump so bobby will be older.
In the rebooted Beavis & Butthead series, Judge has at times depicted B&B as middle-aged men. And it's really funny. I think Judge has done a good job balancing their '90s roots, with how they could have aged in to the 2020s.
I'm optimistic he can do the same with the Hills. But we'll see.

I thought Judge did a good job with 'The Goode Family' too, staying up with contemporary satire.. but based on its quick exit, guess nobody else did.

The political atmosphere is a bit different now than it was when this came out.

I'm curious how they handle it.
It will be difficult not to end up pissing everybody.

For example, Dale should TOTALLY be super into QAnon... but can they tackle that without a massive backlash?

It'll be interesting. I doubt they confront partisan politics head on. Luckily, the show has always been anti-grifting so there's lots of ground they can cover there (social media, crypto, whatever) while still being true to the show's roots. If done right, it's a really great show to throw pointed barbs at the institutions and people helping destroy society.

Voice actor of Dale, Johnny Hardwick, was found dead this week at 62 in his home. This will probably throw a wrench into the new show unless they can use AI to use his voice from the previous seasons.

RIP Johnny :(
