waiting for the other shoe to drop. Meaning Rutherford threw in a prospect, a draft pick and/or retained 40% of Westgarth's salary in order for Calgary to take him.

Not sure why Calgary would take him otherwise.

Get rid of Westgarth and pick up a young guy who could potentially help out in Charlotte? Barring any salary retention or unmentioned draft picks, this could go down as one of JR's best moves...Guess Calgary needed some #truculence.

Well, there's one expendable piece gone. He was the most expendable piece, but still, it's something. At worst, we have more depth in Charlotte.

Seems to be more trade activity brewing around the Hurricanes. Could be an interesting night.

Could be other dominoes.

Where's the downside to this?

There's no downside if it is a straight "Westgarth for Nemisz" trade. Unfortunately, Westgarth is useless and makes $750K (ahl or nhl) and Nemisz makes $85K at the AHL level. Not sure why Calgary would do this trade unless Rutherford threw in a "sweetener" as well (draft pick, prospect, or retain salary). I hope I'm wrong.

"And the other piece in the trade was Victor Rask"

Not even close.

Tlusty for Paradis
Getting MTL to take Kaberle
Markov for Justin Williams
Primeau for Brind'Amour
etc...

are all FAR better moves than this nothing move of a couple of plugs.

Should I edit to add a :sarcasm:?

Was poking fun at JR's tendency to add picks/retain salary to get rid of contracts.

But yeah, I like this move. Nesmiz was a guy we had been connected to in the past, and Nesmiz still has some upside to him. Total reclamation project, but he could be a viable 3rd or 4th liner down the road if he can hold up.

What's the connection between Nesmiz and the Canes?

Frees up a roster spot in Raleigh. Give fresh blood to the Checkers. No big NHL contract to contend with. Great salary/roster dump. Nemisz will not be an NHL player.

This roster spot opening may have to do with the current glut at goaltender. May not be more to come. Khudobin will get called up soon and we will not send Peters thru waivers.
