Ranger fans, we gotta tank.
This team is not good.
Two things:
One-- The Rangers will never tank. They are quite possibly the most anti-tank team philosophically. They have NEVER earned a top five draft pick since the league grew larger than 6 teams. Seriously. They've never done better than 6th overall. The one time they flirted with the possibility of a tank was in the lead up to the Crosby draft. And because of the lockout, that tank attempt resulted in them getting not Crosby, but the 16th overall pick instead. In short-- over the last 50 to 60 years, the Rangers THOUGHT about tanking one time. It was to try and snag the consensus best player in several generations, and it blew up in their faces.
Two-- If the Rangers were to buck half a century of team philosophy and culture, they could do a lot better than a 2nd rounder and a throw-away prospect for Klein. Klein could net a ransom at the trade deadline, and there would be no reason to trade him before that point.
