What's the cost on Hayes?

Moved in the offseason at a half retained for a later round pick, now closer to fair value AAV and on a 40ish point pace

Not getting a ton of minutes in St. Louis and they look to be sellers

Interested in a swap for someone like Acciari but wondering what the extra cost would be in futures

Don't think we'd want Acciari, but don't think we'd value Hayes a ton either. Hayes makes more sense for us as a middle 6 C/W option, and the difference in value wouldn't be worth a move.

It's hard to say because I don't really think the Blues are currently looking to move him. He's a warm body who has good faceoff numbers and ok production until Dvorsky and Dean can cement themselves as everyday NHL centers. All while not having to throw the kids into positions they are not ready for.

Probably not a significant piece. That being said, as others have stated, not a big reason to trade him. He’s there as a locker room guy and a placeholder and he’s been somewhat productive.

I don’t love his game personally at center. I don’t think he is very good in the defensive zone.

With that though, I think. Armstrong and Bannister are both going to be hard pressed to be asked to enter into a rebuild. I think Armstrongnis putting a heavy weight on rebuilding the culture within the players vs rebuilding the group of players.

Just getting that slug off the team likely made the Flyers 20 points better. If you want to tank, he's your guy.
This is harsh but I agree with the sentiment. He’s slow, inconsistent and just productive enough to keep himself relevant. I think I’d avoid him unless I have a defensively sound 3rd line that desperately needs a scoring boost.

Hayes is the bridge to one of Dean or Stenberg taking over the 3C spot which obviously could/will be multiple seasons away.

Dean is 20 in his 1st pro season coming out of juniors and needs AHL time. Even if Dean does look like he's taken a step in camp it's probably auditioning as 4C behind Hayes.

Stenberg is with Frolunda through the '24-'25 season so he won't even be available to the Blues until '25-'26.

They'll probably keep Hayes this season and '24-'25 as well.

To expand the discussion a bit, are there power wingers/ centers that the Blues would look to move on from? It has been awhile since O'Reilly led STL to the cup and I'm not too familiar with the roster, but I've always had the impression that the Blues were pretty stocked on those kinds of players (B. Schenn in his prime, even Tarasenko was pretty strong and mobile). It sounds like Hayes may not be the kind of player, but I'm curious to see who would be the closest candidates to meeting that description, and what would be the ask for them.

Current roster to fit under that category

Neighbors, Toropchenko, Schenn, Blais

Maybe you could fit Kapanen, Buchnevich and Saad in there. But they aren’t really overly physical, but are fairly big and mobile.

Neighbors I’d venture is near 0 willingness
Toropchenko probably pretty close to 0
Schenn - should look into it, but recent captain it’s doubtful.
Blais - probably movable, fairly insignificant. Hasn’t picked up scoring touch he found at the end of last year but hits everything.
Kapanen - not overly physical but movable
Saad - should be movable, not physical but responsible.
Buch - probably should weigh the options with what’s out there in return. But it’s going to have to be an extremely large return this season as his cap hit is very manageable for what he brings and it’s on another season.

Blais seems to be what you’d be looking for. I can’t imagine him fetching much back if they decide to move him. But he plays so physical I don’t see them moving him for no reason.
