Columbus Blue Jackets assistant coach Keith Acton is set to become an associate coach with the Edmonton Oilers, according to a team release Friday.

Acton joins newly-appointed head coach Dallas Eakins as fresh faces behind the Oilers bench for the 2013-14 season.

"We appreciate Keith's contributions to our hockey club during his time with the Blue Jackets. This is a great opportunity for him and we wish him the best," said Blue Jackets' general manager Jarmo Kekalainen.

Unfortunate. Another reason to hate Edmonton, as if I need another. Good luck to him if not the Oilers.

Too bad. He was a good x and o guy. He must have a connection with Eakins.

That's too bad. There was a period when I was a kid that Acton was one of my favorite players. I was excited when he joined the staff, and I liked the experience he brought to the bench.

Not related to his coaching, but I also appreciated his answers to Natalie's questions when she'd come onto the bench during breaks. He usually gave long thoughtful answers instead of just spouting quick cliches.

Amen to that. This is a loss for the franchise.

Agreed.

But it could also be used as an opportunity. Could really use someone to fix the PP.

There are plenty of other people behind the bench that I would rather have seen leave. Honestly, I'm not sure a system change is really going to improve this PP. Player development and outside help are probably going to do more good.

The opportunity thing is a bit of a cliche. It's said every time someone leaves.

My wife and I used to joke that he was the brain behind the team...I'm not sure it was much of a joke tbh. I loved his segments during breaks, he was a straight shooter and would tell the viewers flat out why we are losing games, or why we are winning games. I don't want to see us lose the identity we established last season, and unfortunately this is a step in that direction.

to be honest, I never thought the PP had structural issues at any point. The problems I noticed were more with execution and decision making.

Will miss Acton. If for no other reason than I kept expecting him to go full on John Malkovich to one of Natalie's questions eventually.

Too Bad. I'm not trying to overplay his accomplishments, but I think a lot of this past seasons success was predicated on how well Richards, Hartsburg and Acton handled the team. Acton was a good X's and O's guy.

This is disappointing. I hope they manage to find someone similar to Acton in terms of experience, but I can't think of many that would be ok being an assistant.

I think he was forced out...too many people asking Jarmo if they were brothers

Seriously I liked his answers better than Hartsburg's (sp?)

Good luck Keith,

very concerned when there is turnover three days before a draft - not to say our cards are now out on the table to at least another club, but clearly this is the case.

Not questioning Keith's integrity specifically but that sux. I will miss him I too liked his straight answers to questions every chance he had to speak to the camera.

Either that or it's the other way around. They THINK Acton is going over there, but really JK has assassinated him and taken Acton's place so he can get at the Oiler's plans for world domination.

Tied him up in the closet, I like that better, it has a Peter Sellers feel to it. Cato can keep Acton company while JK is impostering his way into the EDM think tank (is that an oxymoron?).
