This will be the reason they will get rag dolled and intimidated again in the playoffs. And the reason they lose again. Cause coach tells them to play soft and with tail between legs.
“It can go both ways for me. I think there is a symbolic part of it, where you’re staying together and all that. But you can say whatever you want to Tom Wilson – it’s not going to change a single thing about how he plays or what he does,” Keefe said Wednesday. “So, I don’t know if it’s worth really engaging it.
“There’s a certain number of guys that it doesn’t matter. Just like, in a different way, it doesn’t matter what you say or do to Michael Bunting – you’re not going to change how he plays.
“So you can pretend that it’s going to make a difference, but it’s not going to make a difference. If I have my choice, I’d rather just keep playing. Play harder. Be more competitive when the puck drops.”
How Sheldon Keefe wants Maple Leafs to respond to Tom Wilson and others like him

That is an interesting thought and sight sire romber stomper. You already knew. Great note. We should change a bit of the philosofy of a gangsta. Always, always make them pay the price. Hit em hard like tupac did, and don't care. That's the way like the mandalorian says. We gotta want to win, by all means necesarry like marchand knows and bergeron. I think we might take in another thug for the playoffs.... clifford is not good anymore, simmonds can play and get some, muzzin will be healthy but aint enough anymore. Holl is an ok stone head hillbilly. Ritchie is gone for real. Bunting is an original GANGSTER. But we need one mo thug. Cause its all about that THUGLIFE. The hate you give little infants f's errrrbody.

Yeah I don't know how much I like this. If the reasoning is so that you don't get goaded into taking a retaliatory penalty then sure that makes sense. But to let guys like Tom Wilson run around and the message is "just take it and play your game" seems a bit weak. Everyone is built different I guess, but I really don't understand how you can be a man and get rag dolled and just sit there and act like everything is fine. No need to be dumb and punch someone in the face but I'd definitely give a little push back and take a number.

Like I said everyone is different though. Maybe my stance (and of course a multitude of other reasons) is why I'm not in the NHL

I definitely don't agree with the message that Keefe is putting out to the team. Everyone knows that pushing back against Tom Wilson and others won't change their game. That's not the point though. The point in having some push back against stuff like that, is to let everyone know that you aren't just going to take it. Pushing back as a team is way better than what Keefe would rather them do, which is get into the fetal position and wait it out. It's no wonder they've struggled in the playoffs when faced with adversity, with that soft and weak mentality.

I don't think that comment has anything to do with physicality and grit. I think he's just saying he doesn't want the boys giving into the retaliation penalty.

Keefe 100% will want these things from a team perspective: Win board battles, finish your check, make plays under pressure and wear the team down over the 7 game series. If you can't do these 4 things in the playoffs then gtfo

What else can he really say ?

he can't can't tell the truth and say we're a soft team so he downplays it but he is right that Wilson won't change the way he plays

Doesn’t surprise me. Players come here and their physical play evaporates immediately.

Look no further than the Amazon series. Keefe urges Foligno not to fight Lowry. Foligno’s response was what stuck with me - looked genuinely shocked that an NHL coach was telling him not to respond after Lowry was abusing guys and the Leafs weren’t even winning.

A substantial portion of the Leafs problems are related to culture.

If not a single leafs player can even facewash someone or push back when intimidated, that’s a problem. Bunting having to deal with multiple opponents by himself in scrums is a problem. It is a sh.tty way to play a team game. All teams would gladly play Leafs in playoffs cause they have no grit or guts, whatever semantics you wanna use.

We should MAN UP MORE and alpha that up. We shold reward the home crowd and all the human beings who are now BACK AT THE GAME........................................ Others do, why are we not.

Thing is its not about Wilson or the other team at all. Standing up for each other is what teams do. Its what Shanny wants and Dubas tries to bring in each year. It's showing we don't care who you are we won't be f***ed with.
Or yiu can roll over and take it and be soft and cowardly. Good luck with that

the grit we need you can't find on the scrap heap and that's where Dubie's been shopping for it

that's why you have to keep throwing darts in the draft , most prospects bust anyway so you might as well take a flyer on grit with a couple of picks every year and hope the odd one pans out

Still looks like shinny hockey to me. I watched less than a period, first time in awhile and we were playing in the offensive zone along the perimeter the entire time... same routine skating towards the back of the net and throw it to the front of the net, same thing I used to do when I played NHL2007. Still seems to be a team without an identity.

I'll give credit where it's due in that the Leafs won the game against Washington. A best-of-seven series against a mystery opponent isn't necessarily guaranteed to play out in the same fashion though.

Engvall just got bullied into the boards by Dahlin from the crease. The intensity shown to stand his ground is the same intensity our bottom 6 shows in the playoffs.

Really hope Kase is good to go for the playoffs and lasts 20-25 games. He's the only one I have as a lock to put his heart on his sleeve.
