This thread is based on a lot of perceived dislike of Kasperi Kapanen from Pitts fans and a change of scenery trade.

I don't think Stastny has been a good fit in Carolina and wonder if the Pens would send KK straight across for some cap savings?

for clarity

Stastny (1.5m 1 yr) for KK (3.5m 2 yr)

Gives us cap flexibility so the answer, at this time, is yes.

That said, I think I would immediately be looking to flip him somewhere for a late pick. Or, if he comes in and does well, maybe look to move Jeff Carter.

Could actually be a fit in Raleigh? I think Carolina`s playstyle would fit Kapanen better than Pittsburhs. He is a speedy winger after all.

No. Simple reason is Pittsburgh is already the oldest team. Kapanen is faster, meaning Pittsburgh gets slower . I agree the cap savings would be nice and a small, very small add on from Carolina gets this done

Yep. It's probably the best possible team fit for Kapanen. Carolina just punts the puck forward and sprints after it. A guy with wheels should be well-suited to that kind of zone exit/entry system. Kapanen wouldn't have to worry about silly things like "passing" or trying to "make a play".

Don't like it as a Canes fan. Kapanen is pretty brain dead in terms of hockey IQ. He’s got great wheels and outs in max effort but can never seem to find chemistry with anyone or lead to overall positive impact at either end of the ice.

I could see him working on the 3rd line with Staal and Fast but honestly Martinook plays the same game and is fitting in there just fine.

I just don’t think he has the IQ to play in our top 6 and he’s too expensive to play anywhere else.

Really, the best "team fit" for Kapanen, is just whatever team recognizes that he's not a real "Top-6" Forward, and can just leave him alone to generate his 15-20G and 30Pts from the third line without any "good" linemates.

He could be a replacement for Fast in time on the third line. That line just works more than needing chemistry, offense is considered a bonus and not heavily counted on. Especially now that Nino is gone.

I’d do it. I think he does fit the style even if he isn’t thinking the game quick enough.
Ya, I could see potential for a Fast replacement. Not sure I love his salary though

I think Kapanen is a great example of guys who have worked really well with Staal in the past. I think Staal's most common linemate in Pittsburgh was Tyler Kennedy and Kapanen and Kennedy have a lot in common.

I don't think the Canes should have that much interest in him, though. Kapanen isn't that "overpaid" for what he brings, because him as a UFA would still cost around $2.5 million to sign. But with that said, he doesn't exactly have an attractive contract for someone wanting to acquire a 3rd liner.

I mean, if you left him on the third line of a team like the Blues or Panthers, he’d still be bad. He doesn’t know how to pass.

That's the trick though. I'd take him on my 3rd line any day. He's still going to to pot 20G or something thereabouts. With linemates who aren't great.

I don't want Kapanen in my Top-6 at all. But as a 3rd liner, he's a potential stud.

Well then, you twisted our arm. How about.....future considerations?

You could then package those with something else to get a guy like Max Pacioretty.
