How exactly are we paying for this? Earlier in the year we didn't even have room to sign Pinto.
Karlsson retention, maybe Chabot gets traded. Tarasenko is likely gone.

Room can be made. More interesting to think about the value it would take.

Trade doesn't happen now probably in the summer.

Karlsson would not help this team.

Why not? Young team that plays with their heads cut off. All skill and speed no thinking.

It would be like adding a Giroux on D, and Giroux has been one of the most effective Senators last two years.

Dont think its realistic cuz of cap as others have mentioned. But would Pens want Chabot?

Some salary would have to be dumped. Idk why Pens would retain when they are still trying to contend

Pens are not moving Karlsson this year and probably next with Sid there. But after next year I do expect the rebuild to begin and Karlsson will be in demand with limited term and salary. Ottawa gives up a nice package as ownership needs to win. He knows the city and can elevate the team. Assuming he is healthy, I can see this happening. Plus he has 1.5 million retention the last 2 years of his deal so the actual cash cost is favorable.

Pens are not trading Karlsson after just getting him.

isn't that the plan though?

everyone knows that the penguins are heading into a drawdown. so they get Karlsson for pennies try to win one more with the current aging core, and if it doesn't work out flip him with some more retention and hopefully for even more than they acquired him.

Malkin is really showing his age so now they have only one legit 1st line and Carters salary is burying them too. Unless Malkin gets hot might be hard to make the playoffs in which case moving Karlsson makes sense.

Also, important to remember he will be 2 years older at 35 years of age.

They need a big, physical two way defenseman who plays on the right side.

That is not Karlsson. Aside from the position.

The time to move on from Karlsson was years ago. lets let it go

Other Sens fans can confirm, but it seems like their sentiment is that it would make more sense to acquire and slot William Karlsson at RD than Erik?

Try again next year.

The Penguins are going to trade him eventually, but not until like 2026 or so. Unless the team magically decides to blow it up and they can get a strong return for Karlsson, they're not moving him.

I'm expecting that he'll bring back something like a 1st and a prospect in 2026 with the Penguins eating a bunch of his money, when they're finally accepting of the fact that the team is done.
