Which side would have the +

Virtanen is severely miscast on a mismanaged team. I believe he can still be a very effective player. He brings things the Leafs prospects lack (physicality, grit, shot). Would compliment players like Matthews and Nylander very well.

Kapanen has been tearing up the AHL, and would likely be on Vancouver's team right now.

Virtanen had significantly higher draft pedigree, Kapanen is doing well right now (has had consitency issues in the past)

Pass as a Leaf fan. I like how Kapanen is doing on the Marlies.

I'm not a leafs fan, but I like the idea for the Leafs. They have a lot of young skill guys and some of them are kind of chippy but Virtanen would be a really good fit with them with his style of aggressive play.

Torontos adding, but the potential upside for Virtanen means we're not moving him for a downgrade. Thanks, but no thanks.

Definitely a good thought.

I'd do it, always been a fan of Virtanen, and his physicality would fill a need.

I pass. Similar level prospects going into the draft with wildly varying opinions. One went high on a reach, one fell. One losing his way after being rushed to the N, one seemingly putting things together on a steadier development path.

As to the "significantly higher draft pedigree"

Of the 12 main composite published rankings JV average 11.6 (with a benefit of the doubt 31 assigned to Button's 1st round NR I think it was actually closer to mid 40's), KK average 15.3, and ahead on 4 of 12.

Pass from Toronto, like what we are seeing in Kappy seems like a bit of a lateral move. Any trade we make using our young talent should be to upgrade on defense IMO.

Kapanen is better at both ends of the ice and is trending upwards fast.

No dice.

Leafs will certainly look what Kapanen will do at the NHL before he gets traded for an "iffy" NHLer

Highest Leafs prospect Kapanen traded? Need a Dman coming back

Wouldn't do it. Only thing Virtanen has a distinct advantage on Kapanen in is physicality, which has disappeared a bit with his constant shoulder problems. I didn't really like Virtanen at the draft. I think Kapanen has a better chance to be a solid top 9 winger in an effective role like Carl Hagelin, whereas I think Virtanen could realistically be this generations Chad Kilger. I also think while Kapanen can also get a bit of tunnel vision, he has better hockey IQ in regards to team play and creating openings.

Kapanen seems to be the better groomed player brought along properly up to this point. Virtanen possesses a more interesting package of skills, and is something the Leafs are missing, but PWFs are hard to bring along.

Interesting, but I think I'll pass. If they pan out to be rather equal Virtanen fits us more, and of course it's also very possible than Virtanen turns out far better, but I'd rather not take that gamble given their current trajectories.

Pass from the Leafs.

If it wasn't for draft position people wouldn't hold Virtanen in any kind of high esteem.

Kapanen has rising stock, Virtanen sliding fast.

How 'bout Kapanen for Lazar... Lazar has as much value as Virtanen and is a good kid that will shut up and do his job

Honestly, if anyone can fix Virtanen, it is Toronto. They aren't scared to develop players properly.
