He's been an absolute monster and quite possibly our best shutdown defenseman in the playoffs so far.

At some point there is going to be an article or two written about him and he'll finally get his due. Doubt half of NHL fans even know who the hell he is

There's no way the rangers are gonna lock him up for 8 years.

If they did they'd seriously hamstring what they can do for the next few years because 8 years is costing at least 5 to 6m a year.. and I'm probably low.

They'll bridge him, and they should. Rangers gotta pinch pennies today and pay future to make this team remain competitive and continue to be competitive.

Would they want to give him 8? Sure... But they can't afford to right now.

Here
Kid has been incredible, there’s nothing else left to say.

Playoffs are a different animal and Key has risen to the occasion and then some.

Smart, great stick, covers so much ice with his great skating, durable playing big minutes, doesn’t seem to get tired, pitches in offensively and what - he’s fairly new at playing the position? For real?

I feel safest knowing Miller is on the ice more than any defender we've got, and that's even with Trouba on the ice with him.
trouba's made his mistakes, but his contract is looking less and less like an overpay the more games we play.
He eats ice time, he sets a phyiscal tone, he's got just the right amount of nasty for the playoffs and he sets a calming presence for our kid D.

But he takes bad penalties and makes terrible decisions on the PP. But yeah, he's not terrible. Still trust KAM more than anyone else on d.

He's an old school PP guy and honestly i'd rather KAM or eventually jones on pp2.
Trouba isnt there for his point production though on the PP, he's there for the defensive stability he adds to our lineup.

Other than the way he shoots, is this kinda how Chara was in his prime? Super tall with insane reach?

I know Chara had more of a bomb from the point though.

KAM is a far better puck handler than chara even in his prime.
Chara is and was far meaner.
Kam doesn't have the kind of blast chara did, but he's got a nasty wrist shot.

Kam has more growth potential still, his perfect game is jumping into rushes while also bringing smothering Defense.

I said this a month and a half ago....may be too late for a team friendly deal now.
It was too late before the season started. We are unlikely to have the cap space to give him that kind of deal, especially since Laffy will need a new deal at the same time. We may have to bridge them both and then sign them long term when the cap goes up.

I’m with other saying, LOCK HIM UP LONG TERM.

7 years at 5.75M-6M. I’d do that in a heartbeat.
The problem is unless the cap goes up alot we dont have the space for that without losing someone else thats a big part of our team.

Well Kakko will be bridged but i am worried about Laf’s contract after next year.

Eventually one of the older big guys is going to have to go (Kreider, Trouba, Mika, Bread). Not this year but in a few years something will have to be done.

I think trouba and CK are the first two we move.
Mika and bread likely finish out those contracts as they have full NMC and even as they age they'll probably be fine on the 2nd line.
The thing thats going to matter is the cap going up.
I have a feeling that as soon as the cap starts moving, it takes a HUGE jump that first year (like 10-15m jump)
Which should not only let the rangers keep all the core together, but also let us lock them all up for a long deal and give us flexibility.
But we'll need to bridge till we get there.

If Key becomes a longer, faster Slavin you pair him and Fox together and laugh as other teams get nothing done on the ice other than getting their asses kicked.
Gallant paired him with Fox when Lindgren went out a few shifts. Depending on Lindgren's trajectory, we may have already seen a glimpse of the future.
