I love how his game has progressed, but I don't see him hitting 50 points or anything like that. He's not going to get any power play time, which certainly hurts. In my eyes if he becomes a reliable 35+ points 200 foot beast, that's a massive win.

That is asking quite a lot considering the only dmen with 35+ 5v5 points this year are Roman Josi and Cale Makar. Morgan Rielly will join them soon.

With our pk,I'm sure he will be able to pick up some points shorthanded

Well he has one shorthanded point in 128 games, Fox has 4 in 197, Trouba has 4 in 183 games as a Ranger, and the leading defenseman over the past 3 seasons is Pietrangelo/Lindell/Pelech with a total of 6, so I would not be getting my hopes up for many of those.

5v5 is an unnecessarily limiting stat.

KAM would still be getting 4v4 and 3v3 time.

If this team plays like they have at Even-Strength, our defenseman should see a major uptick in point totals.

You’ve got to be good to hit Nick Holden 5v5 numbers from the blue line

There is cap space when he becomes a RFA in 23-24. Its all about who you want to sign as a priority and who you dont. You cant sign everyone but he is one you should keep.
There isn't, actually. We will very likely re-sign Copp this summer, and we'll end up being tight to the cap next season. The year after that, the following players are up for new contracts: Chytil, Laf, Miller. Our cap penalties will drop by about 3.4 mil, but that plus the minimal cap growth won't be enough to sign everyone and give Miller a long term deal. Even if we end up trading Chytil, it's still unlikely that we'll have enough cap space to give Miller a long term deal. If we can somehow figure it out, and he's willing to sign it, great, but we aren't going to have much cap space until the cap goes up significantly (in 3 years) or we trade Kreider and/or Trouba.

Glad other people are noticing his progression as well. His offensive game has greatly improved and he is making less mistakes on the defensive side of things. He still has work to do but if you ask me is the single most improved player on this team this year vs last year (Igor aside)

Apologies if a bit too off-topic - but looking to stitch a blank jersey and am between Kakko and Miller. Has Key given any indication on whether 79 is a permanent number?

He's been wearing it for 129 games now. If he was going to change it, it would likely have been to begin this year. I think you're safe.

K'Andre Miller in the top 10 when isolating defensive impacts. Lindgren in the top 15 as well, but Miller has made the jump and is now one of the better defenders in the league.

As soon as the offense clicks in, you've got an elite 1D on the left and right side of the unit.

K’Andre Miller has taken a really impressive step as a sophomore on New York’s second pair, alongside Jacob Trouba. He’s still got plenty of room to round out and polish his play, but his size, skating and long reach set a terrific foundation for his game.

Ryan Lindgren, meanwhile, is the defensive safety net that allows Adam Fox to roam free offensively with zero worries. Lindgren’s similar to Carlo in that he gives some of his value back with his inability to contribute offensively, but that’s totally fine when you’re paired with Fox.

I don't know where to begin. I HAVE LOVED THE PICK since it was made. I love repeating it. I don't understand why you see a guy who is 6'3 at the draft and still growing, with skating skills better than most in the whole draft and scouts are like "oh he's too raw, i don't think he will put it together". Miller is a goddamn legend. I usually scourge the web for highlights, draft analysis, and prospect talk to get a better idea about players and learn the situation surrounding them.

I started doing it once i really got into watching hockey, which was after the ott series loss. We were starting to retool and i liked the chytil pick and hated the lias one only because it seemed like a lot to deal with for a guy who didn't really seem to have an extraordinary toolbox. Then again, that draft wasn't the best in terms of deep talent. Although, there was a generational dman in makar right? Heiskanen ain't too shabby as well. I liked the kravstov pick and thought he'd be a stud so obviously i didn't have the best grasp on prospects and i am okay with that. I am still learning from this board and other sources about what it takes to evaluate prospects so i am fine with that.

The difference between all of those picks is miller kinda felt like a gimme no brainer? I think we traded up to get him too iirc. Great hit by the former/current management.

The kid does it all. His reach is *insane*. He can cut corners and he did at first. However, he is learning to start using his body to block off other players and seperate the puck. His puck moving skills are improving as well. They aren't elite and i think that will hurt him if he doesn't add more when he drives the net or pinches in, but it is something that can be improved. It's experience.

Our d-corp should rightfully be the same tier as carolina, although i would argue our third pair is significantly worse than theirs. Their forward depth is better too. I still take igor in a 7 game series.

That was off-topic a bit but seriously, what will miller do when he is like 27? How dominant will he be with a 29 year old fox?

I love how his game has progressed, but I don't see him hitting 50 points or anything like that. He's not going to get any power play time, which certainly hurts. In my eyes if he becomes a reliable 35+ points 200 foot beast, that's a massive win.

35+ with no PP time is pretty insane. Adam Fox had 39. 35 would have put KAM in the top 15 in the NHL in ESP this season.

Great game. There was one play where Malkin was coming in on him and has some nice moves where it looked like he was undressing him, but he kept his eyes looking right at his chest and didn’t buy any of the dekes and broke up the play. Looking at the chest is one of the most important fundamental things for defending, saw both Lindgren and Trouba burned several times tonight looking down at the puck. Miller has incredible physical tools but the question was always the hockey IQ, especially positional my as he transitioned to D so late. But his strides this year have been massive
